Zen Cactus is a Super Rare variant of Cactus in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. She was first seen in a reveal video on the Facebook page of Plants vs. Zombies on November 20, 2015. Her special ability is that as she fires her needles, her impact and splash damage increases progressively until She runs out of ammo. However, all players can see the current amount of ammo the Zen Cactus currently has in her clip by looking at the orbs that are circling around her. She was the only Cactus variant unlockable in the beta.

Primary weapon

The Zen Cactus's primary weapon is the Mystic Orbs. It has a slower rate of fire, slower projectile speed, and slower reload speed ( though it is still faster than the Camo Cactus). It deals 20 damage with direct hits for the first shot. Every orb fired increases the damage dealt by 10 points until it caps at 60 points of damage for the fifth and final orb.

Stickerbook description

Most people don't know this, but all five of Zen Cactus' mystic orbs are named after types of tacos. Which ones, you ask? Well that's a closely guarded secret...

In-game description

Each time Zen Cactus fires a shot, her Mystic Orbs grow in size and power!

Potato Mine

Potato Mine is a passive attack piece that deals 175 damage to any zombies that step on it.

Potato Nugget Mine

An alternate ability of Potato Mine, Potato Nugget Mine is smaller and does less damage. However, it is easier to camouflage and the player can place more of them at once compared to Potato Mine.

Pizzazzling Potato Mine (GW2 only)

The Pizzazzling Potato Mine is an alternate ability that's basically a reskin of the Potato Mine. It has no differences except that it's golden, surrounded by gems, and releases glitter and makes a different sound when detonated.

Garlic Drone

Garlic Drone is a flight-capable drone with five health. Its primary weapon is the Needle Shot, and it's abilities are to descend, ascend, and the Corn Strike.

Artichoke Drone

An alternate ability of Garlic Drone, Artichoke Drone has 20 health instead of the Garlic Drone's five. Its primary weapon is the Artichoke Hearts, and it's abilities are to descend, ascend, and the Baby Corn.

Red Artichoke

Another alternate ability of the Garlic Drone, it is a faster version of the Artichoke Drone with only five health. It shares its primary weapon and all but one ability with the Artichoke Drone, and it's version of the Baby Corn is slightly different.

Dark Garlic Drone

Dark Garlic Drone is yet another alternate ability of the Garlic Drone with five health and a very different weapon. Its primary weapon is the Dark Garlic, which fires slower, deals more damage, and has splash. Its abilities are to descend, ascend, and an altered version of the Corn Strike.

Tallnut Battlement

Tallnut Battlement is a wall of two Tall-nuts and two Wall-nuts held together by vines with a decent amount of health. It can be used to stall zombies or provide cover.

Iron Maiden

An alternate ability of Tallnut Battlement, Iron Maiden is an armored Wall-nut that is hard to destroy. It is much stronger than the Tallnut Battlement; its only downside is its smaller size.

The Zen Cactus is best used defensively at medium-long range distances as your pink coloration and glowing orbs will reveal your position and turn you into a high priority target for the enemy team. To counter this, either try to find a secluded sniping spot or plant a Heal Flower or have another player heal you as a Sunflower.

Zen Cactus's high damage output and splash damage will allow you to easily deal with Imps (and to some extent their mechs).

The Zen Cactus is a slightly risky character to use, as all players, plants and zombies alike, are able to see how much ammo you have left. The less ammo you have, the bigger the chances that someone might pick you as a target, especially if you miss your first shot and give away your position.

Choosing whether or not to reload becomes a new feature with this Cactus as reloading has both advantages and disadvantages. Reloading will fully refill your clip, allowing you to fire for longer periods but it also resets your damage, making your shots less lethal. If you have to take out a low-health target at long range with a single shot, you can try doing it by wasting all shots in your clip except for the last one, then use the elevated damage of the last shot to take out the target.

  • She uses two gestures in its trailer.
    • The first is similar to a "wake up stretch." However the audio used is the first game's gesture "Yes". Its name is based on the former.
    • The second is "The Robot" gesture from the first game, sped up instead of normal speed.
  • Zen Cactus's Mystic Orbs sparkle mystic shapes that is similar to Mystic Flower's sparkles.
  • Zen Cactus is the only plant that has flying objects surrounding her.
  • Her hood appears to be a reference to the hood Raven from the Teen Titans series wears.
    • This is odd, since Raven is riddled with negative energy, while the Zen Cactus is blessed with positive energy.
