He once competed against Bloomerang for the champion of boomerang show match on the plant sports game. Unfortunately the latter used a technique of hurling boomerangs in a cross-shaped pattern and beat him. To have a wonderful performance at the next sports game, he began to take crazy running exercise. He feels confident because he’s experienced in playing with flying discs. He has been able to reach the highest possible running speed by spinning - with a side effect that he’ll return after some distance.

Whirlwind Acorn (旋风橡果; pinyin: xuànfēng xiàng guǒ) is a plant obtained in Frostbite Caves in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2. He launches his cap to attack up to three zombies in front of him twice in a similar manner to Bloomerang. When the cap hits an Walrus Zombie, it explodes and destroys him immediately. 

Origins

Whirlwind Acorn is based off an acorn, a nut and a seed of an oak.

His name comes from "Whirlwind", referring to his Projectile and Plant Food effect and "Acorn", the real-life plant he is based on.

His Almanac entry references Bloomerang as Whirlwind Acorn attacks the same way as he does. It also references Bloomerang's Plant Food effect where he shoots his boomerangs in a cross-shape.

When fed with Plant Food, Whirlwind Acorn summons a tornado, flies in it and deals 1800 damage to all zombies and destructible obstacles in his way before falling on his tile.

Costumed

Whirlwind Acorn now spins up two more tornadoes to attack the first zombies of the two adjacent lanes.

Level upgrades

Strategies

Although he takes a while to recharge, he deals heavy damage. He should be assisted with Winter Melons or Sap-flings to make up for that recharge. Leave a Chard Guard, Tall-nut, or Infi-nut in front of him. It is a good idea to couple this with strong and fast attacking plants just in case the player's defensive plants die.

Trivia

• He looks almost the same as his counterpart in Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars. The only difference is that he has a wind-up key instead for a stem.
• He was teased before release by appearing on the plant preview icon after beating some levels such as Ancient Egypt - Day 4 and Day 7.
• When Whirlwind Acorn attacks, he makes the same noise that Bloomerang makes when Plant Food is used on him.
