Here's a mixtape you can optionally play that fits me celebrating this wikiversary. It fits well with a bunch text you will probably not read it all here:
Just in case that new youtube embed feature got broken in the future, imma check and see if YouTubePlayer still works. In case it still does:
(If it doesn't work, I'll be yelling at Drek for this)
Welp, other than that, it's been 10 years since I first existed in the wiki in terms of activity.
And no, this edit nor this other one doesn't count! I'm talking about the first time I touched the forums where I talked about the just released Android port of Plants vs. Zombies 2. Back when it was just thriving, the world map being MASSIVE, have my favorite Piñata Party mode on their first debut, and consequently the new plant costumes including this epic fella, me!
That was like one of my first wiki highlights that I do unironically like that plant at the time and even still to this day despite of being a power creep since for some reason there are certain things (thx Flag zombie for making those videos!) in the Chinese version that still made that plant worth using against those Chinese version-exclusive zombies and now that the plant FINALLY has Level 5, free cost Ice-shroom is finally real (for a small chance, ofc).
Other than that tech fact, I just like that appearance of that plant and the plant costume that became my wiki avatar that goes unchanged since March 2014 during the release of the Far Future update. Give it a few months before this wiki avatar becomes 10 years old, unchanged! Huh, it's now 10 years old! Still thriving and going!
Yeah, I noticed that I came this far since the wiki forum days. I remember being a regular at forum games in there that I even made custom sprites for the icons at the time!
The link changes every time you (re)load this page!
I still remember making stuff like:
- Making wiki edits,
- Trying to edit snipe battle a bot against Uselessbot,
- Reviving the Plants vs. Zombies Adventures mouse cursor;
body {
cursor: url('https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/plantsvszombies/images/b/b9/PvZA_Mouse.png'),auto;
}
And paste it into your common.css and save!
That link will take you to that page so you can get a neat surprise once you follow the two instructions and then refresh or Crtl+F5 the wiki.
- Making Template:YouTubePlayer exist more because I can,
- and so on.
I still remember how some users do want me to be part of the wiki staff, even as high as B-crat, but I declined simply because I have school stuff to do at the time and given it requires activity to maintain it; I see no reason to why I should have powers when I could just...ask the staff members to do my admin-like wiki and MediaWiki edits for me. Even NOW while making this wikiversary blog post, I still done the same ol' thing to ask Dreamy, one of the wiki admins and also a cool user, to revive this very "Bloomerang's alternate costume.png" file being my first ever wiki image upload!
Gonna be honest, I do somewhat miss my ol' wiki days and my wiki prime when I had interest in making wiki edits. School pretty much takes a toll out of that and now College comes around to suck my free time even more, yaaay. On the side note, I did accomplish my capstone and stuff, so I should be even more busy with life trying to live.
...heh, that Template:E(mote) I made still works!!!! Yeah, I also remember making those wiki templates too. Some easy to make like Template:E, while others being more complicated than they look like Template:YouTubePlayer. I do have some programming passion making such templates that only a few users are able to do such of them like the wiki admins.
Time just passes by when you got IRL stuff to do and now, looking back at my life being a teenager....while high school felt like I am missing something, I was still able to make up for it in the wiki-space.
Not just in wiki editing or talking about stuff in the forums and playing forums games, also hanging out in other places in the wiki at the time such as the blogs (especially the "Ask Me Anything" blogs that I love commenting them on) and the wiki chat, the reason why I made even more friends in the wiki with some being long timers such as myself.
Even though I wasn't around in the mainspace wiki editing anymore unlike my wiki prime, I am still thinking about makings some wiki edits one day when I do have the time for them. When my life allows for it, even!
I may not do much wiki stuff anymore and how I do even more non-wiki stuff elsewhere than places like this wiki like chat more on Discord...but, I am still AWikiBoy521, or AWikiBoy, for how some still call me as such to this day.
I mean, I didn't really change my wiki username or anything either. It's just that because of how people old and new still call me either "AWB, "Wiki Boy", or even "wiki"; I felt like keeping it that way not because of how people are used to me calling me that but because to show some sort of proof that I thrive in the wiki lands under that name and even a few places like Discord servers, I guess.
And given how still I kept that avatar pfp as is, eventually some users started to make this Iceberg Lettuce fella essentially a "persona" of mine. Something that does represent me for an avatar that I just left unchanged just because I really liked that plant, both function (by practicality) and appearance-wise. Even some made art about me, which is something I didn't ask for but still nice to see people making such artworks for based on my wiki appearance. I'm just lowkey impressed that there is someone out there, one of my friends for context, that just kept collecting Iceberg Lettuce-related art of wiki lettuce me and hey, I gave 'em some of the pics that I found in my perspective, kek.
This comic seemed to be the big highlight when it comes to how my wiki avatar was used. People assumed it's just Iceberg Lettuce with a human body, like how Charmade red321 did as first ever iteration of my Iceberg Lettuce wiki character. It does bring me back to some of the casual times in the wiki chat that I had and this comic represents the good ol' times I remember.
It's funny how some of my fellow wiki peeps still message me to this day. Not in wiki chat ofc cuz it's dead, but in Discord as some sort of a wiki chat spiritual successor. Shoutout to the two wiki peeps that still DM'd me to this day, one who fixates more about tech that I can see me making use of one day like owning a lighter laptop for "work" and one that talked about their going ons with school life & how it's like some sort of a thing between us to carry on that topic with a mix of other fixations and stuff and eventually TECH TALK, much like the former!
I heavily suck at socializing back then. While I do have a few close friends of mine that I still contact by back then, I still have some struggles in interacting with people and especially new ones. Despite of this, I was still able to interact with quite the number of users over at the forums, userpages, user blogs, and especially the wiki chat. There some users that I do wish to talk to that also happened to be as shy and introverted as I am, which I ended-up being part of some of the user's reason of improving their social skills! Notably Marcia Aeris, which took the user a while to set-up and finally touch more grass do the IRL meet-up one day alongside Reapeageddon and GamerNerd_i and turned out to be good at it!
The Wiki did help my get better at it down the line and well...I ended up seeing a drastic change in my socializing ability comparing past me to now me and I would thank the wiki community enough for helping me get better at it.
I do mean it in a way where, for the past 10 years, I had like a massive step-up when it comes to my self-improvements especially at socializing and I want to thank the wiki community and those who do interact me in a good way for making that possible!
While I'm at thanking people, I do thank those who still kept in touch elsewhere with me throughout the years! I never thought I would get to still interact with some of you peeps there but hey, you still kept on going!
I would especially thank someone, name withheld, for giving a shiz about me. I mean, you go around talking about your and my life from waaay back then and we still kept on doing it to this day! While I already have some experience with having close friends IRL, you are like one of close friends that, even unintentionally, taught me how to make a close friend that is long lasting too. Funny how you are the close friend that also made me another close friend because you are the one who introduced them to me.
I do miss a few users here and there though. Definitely Uselessguy and Someone456 on the wiki spaces, for instance. Even some ones too that while they are PvZW users, I got more experience with them elsewhere. TheAnonymousA is one of them and he seemed to be the user that I do miss from the forum gaming and Kingdom Wiki & chat times I had with that user.
But hey, it's no point of going back when there's no time better than the present! Admittedly, I felt like I outgrown my PvZ self and I do look forward to something else different that I never tried going for instead. Sometimes you gotta do something different once in your life and not always the same thing you always do everyday. I tried different stuff as of late, going to other places that isn't PvZ-related to begin with in crack open my shell even further, and even learn a few more things about the peeps I had newly encountered as of late. Admittedly, it did help me recover a hint of grief of a small community I was on back in the like 2018 and some canon events I had led me to encourage myself to really make the most out out of my life and make new memories instead of. That gave me more opportunities to know more kinds of people and I'm still surprised I still had that potential to get better at communicating at even peeps I never encountered before. Some of which ended being potentially having both me and them knowing each other even better...
Even that resulted some crossovers that I never thought it's possible, but very nice to see. If you're one of the few people that are affected by this crossover I am talking about, you're welcome.
I may not do much wiki edits now compared to back then, but those experience that I had in the wiki pretty much helped me gained more experience to pretty much my upcoming life style. Even a few of my classmates in College are surprised that I had experience with some of the Computer lessons before thanks to my knowledge of a bit of some Advanced MediaWiki stuff and bits of Javascript (mainly used when I made the YouTubePlayer re-write). Even I had this dynamic with my friend circles that I happened to be the guy for Tech Support and pretty much I am that guy for troubleshooting their shiz.
But, I would never forget how this community, the fun one back then to clarify, pretty much help me shape up to grow drastically. Like this wiki account alone is proof that I pretty much got a long way since Pac-man and proof that I pretty much have grown so much to not help myself grow better but also help others out in the wiki and even elsewhere better.
And this is why I made this blog in the first place, to acknowledge how far I come starting as a random forum Piñata Party and forum gamer user to being just a plain ol' Regular User that does some wiki staff-ish stuff as a power-full user (aka, I don't even need staff power to perform admin-like powers to begin with) and how much potential I got to end up carrying over into myself at both my communication skills and my programming skills. I wonder what I would make next from branching out once in a while....
Well, it may a little late from October 2023 where I first got a few forum comments talking about the first Android release of Plants vs. Zombies 2's Piñata Party update when I just submitted this blog, but hey. I do have a busy life to this day and I am making the most out of that despite of my business.
