As for me, I don't really care about the popularity of this game, I still enjoy it after all these years. I love this game. Anyway, what do YOU think about the game's popularity?

In the pop culture since, not really. I mean, it's obviously not nearly as popular as it has been since launch, but everyday the game is bleeding players, with some people only coming back for either Battlez, or the people like me (or are very few and far in between) who just felt like coming back to the game.
The short answer is no, and the long answer you're allowed to like anything you want to like. From a technical perspective, i think PVZ2 is a pretty bad game. But I still love playing the game in spite of all of the terrible design choices, because there's still enough good in there (for me anyway) that I can have seemingly limitless amounts of fun with it.
I disagree that that PvZ 2 is a bad game. Granted, it's not a great game either but it's not that bad. I'd say the Plants vs Zombies games in general is such a guilty pleasure of mine, like Angry Birds is.
You see, PVZ1 is well designed, at least originally. Nothing is locked behind premium content that you have to spend money on, ads are not shoved in your face (at least on the PC editions, can't say the same for mobile), and the game incentives plant variety and experimentation, which the second doesn't do as good o fa job at. Also the original has a better selection of game modes imo
The original PvZ and PvZ2 are largely different due to the different models the developers had in mind. In 2009, PopCap was still its own standalone relatively small company. In general, small organizations tend to be more receptive to the players and more in touch with them. EA then acquired PopCap, and EA is a major player in the gaming industry, which means they're far more driven by the prospect of high sales than player enjoyment. As such, they hide from the players and exploit them. This is the same issue with large, powerful governments like America, Russia, and China. They hide from the people. In both cases, as long as the current approach continues to work, this won't change. And that's why PvZ2, while initially popular because of the first game, will never surpass the popularity of the original. Like Balls said, the game is bleeding players daily. Had PvZ2 been designed with players in mind, this would be a different story.
PvZ2 is really good designed and the Adventure Mode is great and all but the game itself has its downsides: No new levels since Wild West expansion, its stupid glitch versus mode and also the fact that PopCap are gonna make a peashooter for each mint family. PvZ2 has been dead since 2016. I bet some people think they should've had the game finished by then but they decided to keep moving forward. I still like the game tho, no matter how many times I was beaten up by a killer bot in Battlez.
Yes, still popular. Has millions of players still playing
