steam ages, a region-exclusive pvz2 expansion after modern day. obviously with the name and theming, it's based off of steampunk, and it's been in development for quite some time. what are your thoughts? would you like to have this world in pvz2? how do you feel about it a a chinese player?

    • I've beaten the whole world and almost every hard mode level of it, there's a few complaints I have about it.

      • Coal Miner Zombie doesn't appear enough. He's only in 2 levels at the end of the world.
      • I don't like how glitchy Furnace Zombie is.
      • Gentleman Zombie needs to be smacked
      • Not enough usage of the mini-game.

Overall, it's an okay world. It's just got some really not cool glitches.

        Loading editor
    • Except 3 levels in Hard Mode, I've beaten all levels. And there are many things I don't like about it.

-The mini-game is only used once. Twice, if we count Hard Mode.

-Furnace Zombie and Coal Miner Zombie barely appear.

-Lotus Shooter gets boosted by steam, but it also gets hurted by it, and eventually gets destroyed by it.

-Flattened Mushroom is incredibly useless. It also has no Lvl. 2, but I got x2 Puzzle Pieces of it, so that was the worst chest I've ever opened.

-Vanilla Fan is useless everywhere, even in Steam Ages, when you can find Gentleman Zombies.

-Locked & Loaded levels are almost impossible in Hard Mode. Spam Tactical Cukes or lose.

-Convallaria Chemist is incredibly OP. It deals damage based on the Zombie's healh, so only one of them can defeat a Lvl. 4 Gargantuar.

-And, personally, I don't like the music.

    • This and also the level design pretty much doesn't exist.

        Loading editor
    • Also I don't quite get the point of this being the weekly discussion when we already have PvZ 2 Chinese version discussion page.

        Loading editor
    • Don't actually play this so I have nothing

        Loading editor
    • I'd honestly like more worlds in PvZ2, but for this to be brought over, it needs to be a little less buggy.

Oh, and of course the plants have to actually be added to the map to unlock instead of Puzzle Pieces needed to be collected to get the plants to actually complete the level.

        Loading editor
    • Kinda unfinsihed in my opinion. The zombies are buggy, Flattened-mushroom isn't programmed correctly, 23 levels instead of the typical 24. I can go on and on.

        Loading editor
    • The music is fine, though unique zombies are bit glitchy and unoriginal (Gentleman = Dodo Rider, Furnace = Suicide Bomber and Coal Miner = Surfer)

    • Why It is garbage:

      • Forgotten for half a year before TalkWeb hastily made levels in a month.
      • Zombies are just clones.
      • 80% of levels are literally just Choose Your Seeds with no goal and a Dodo clone.
      • Mini-game is way too easy.
      • Flattened-shroom doesn't work.
      • Coal Miner only appears in TWO LEVELS. EVEN SOLAR CAR APPEARS MORE FREQUENTLY!!!
      • Vanilla Blower is unlocked by completing a level and his costume can be easily obtained, but you can't get his Puzzle Pieces outside lottery.
        Loading editor
    • why are people blaming talkweb? they only came on board recently, this was in development for a year. unless they threw away all work of the original team (which i doubt).

anyways, i never played it so i cant give my opinions but i liked the splash artwork, probably the best pvz2 splash art ever made.

    • The name is kinda the same as Dark Ages, except changed. And I don't remember learning about a time when people went through sewers and there was only trains to travel.

    • NMT's Chinese name is "Rock Ages"

The furnace and the boss are the only things based off steampunk.

    • this

And this is basically SA's development.

      • Dec 2017:New world announced
      • New Year 2018: A teaser reveals its name (somehow it was removed a week later)
      • A few days later:Silhouettes of plants
      • Feb: Part of lawn, the Flag and Gargantuar reskins and Passionflower Engineer were revealed.
        • Also the fact it was told that Steam Ages would come out in June.
      • Anywhere around this time: Plants were being developed, but not levels.
      • May:Announced that development of levels would start in June and that Steam Ages would come on August.
      • June: When the levels were ACTUALLY being created.
      • July: Teasers for everything.

    • This world is NOT decent.

      It's terrible!

      Everything's glitchy and barely works.

Level design is so terrible and not even enjoying to play.

      Mini-game is used ONCE

And much more complaint that I wanted to make but I'm not Astro so Nah.

And actually, this world pretty much resemble PvZ2C's MD (which, Talkweb made it).

Music's imported from there, level design's imported from there, heck, even the LEVEL ORDER IS JUST THE SAME

Overall, pretty much absurdly terrible. And I hate it.

Man, I wish Popcap Shanghai comes back to develop this game, y'know, the last world they made is JM, and that world's absolutely AWESOME!

PvZ2C was getting better and better, now it goes downhill again.

TalkWeb took over the entire place since MD. You can still check it out in the PopCap Games page. They're the ones taking care of everything now. Modern Day, Steam Ages, World Cup Event and all those premium plants from Sumo Muskmelon were all their makings. And despite having an entire year, SA ends up to be the worst thing that theyve ever created (the art team's still normal though, so ye the graphics are still nice af). Basically, this company doesn't know shit about codes, having Steam Ages basically a mod of Modern Day.

        Loading editor
    • World Cup is easy, but really creative.

TalkWeb also scrapped the music cuz they're lazy.

PvZ2C would have been WAAAAAY better if those lazy asses didn't take over.

        Loading editor
    • I wonder if this is something else international scrapped...

        Loading editor
    • Edit: I'm stupid never mind. Would have been cool to get this I guess.

        Loading editor
    • Honestly, I'd rather have Steam Ages be absurdly hard with some more zombies (perhaps the two scrapped zombies) then absurdly easy with constant repetition.

        Loading editor
    • I would bring up my anti-leveling argument again but meh I don't even care anymore.

        Loading editor
    • Thing is, the worlds are so small you can't even enjoy them for some time before you meet the super-hard boss, who you might not even get a key from. It also makes fitting mini-games, exclusive mini-games and unlocking plants into the levels quite hard. (There are around 2-3 of each mini-game in a world in the International Version)

is there just a lack of good programmers in china or somethin?

Lmao are you talking about international PvZ 2, git gud.

    • It's just that TalkWeb spams premiums constantly and shoves them into the levels they created so they'd get more money.

Those levels are pure laziness too.

      • Modern Day: No new plants, no use of Chinese content from other worlds, the levels are plain normal ones that only have Modern Day zombies with no gimmicks and the boss levels are copy pasted from int but w/ level 4 zombies to make people spend money.
      • Steam Ages:Filled with glitches, only Gentleman is used well, the other two are both infrequent and glitchy, some sewers don't work and mini-game is a joke.

The original team doesn't even work on the game since Mar 2017 due them selling development rights.

        Loading editor
    • This is so sad

        Loading editor
    • I want to see the zomboss and I want to see new zombies.

The plants are well designed but the flatten shroom needs to be fixed.

The unused music is so good, ~I think it was made by JHXD.

Gentleman Zombie is literally a flighty Dodo.

The programming is off, this is proven by Furnace Zombie.

Coal Miner barely appears, its funny since I actually forgot its existance.

The way that zombies spawn for fast track sewers is so weird. At least animated the way they go in and come out of it.

        Loading editor
    • By the way, I forgot to mention that the game used to crash randomly and every time I completed a level.

That got fixed two days after the 4399 App Store release, so that's why I forgot.

So this and my other comment are the reasons why I don't like Steam Ages.

        Loading editor
    • Coal Miner's programming is also fucked up. It's supposed to appear in three types of armories like Bug Zombie.

        Loading editor
    • i hated the unused music personally. i think there was like 1 unused track i liked but i hated the rest. the thing about trying to imitate an orchestra's sound is that there's a lot of sampling and stuff like that, that well, needs to go into making it sound authentic.

and peter mcconnel did a fucking amazing job, and i mean A+mazing job at imitating its sound in lost city's theme. hell, i'm not even sure if it was all just kontakt library sampling but if so, he's a great musician.

now steam ages also goes for this psuedo orchestra thing but the music...the compression whole-heartedly does not help the fact it's trying to sound majestic and orchestra-like but the composer likely used soundfonts and no kind of dynamic samples off of anything.

and it sounds awful. the instruments sound super fake (in how the composer wrote it, and the general soundfont samples), and the compression is awful. maybe if the music wasn't compressed, it'd be somewhat more decent.

the composer, looking at his work, is a c- tier musician. he's nowhere near professional-level musician, but he's slightly above, not by a lot, but by people like peamix. the only thing that sets this guy apart from people like peamix and others are the sample quality and a bit more skill here and there.

        Loading editor
    • You forgot the melody. Simply add that in and Peamix is nothing compared to JHXD, while JHXD's SA tracks are clearly nothing compared to the LC ones.

The unused track and the Final Wave track are the only good ones in the main theme as they're not based off LC, but the PvP theme instead, which has more of a solid motif. Just like Peamix's Prehistoric World tracks, even though it's bad, it still fits the gameplay quite well, way better than the one in-game now which is hella decent but doesn't fit the whole thing, worse than their attempts with SC and KFW in which I'm perfectly fine with both if it wasn't for the freakin length.

SA Ultimate Battle needs more piano. SA Minigame is perfectly fine for that Whack-a-Zombie minigame. JHXD is actually a high-school student btw.

      HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

i'ms rry i forgot to finish this post but the fact they have a high school student working on this game

      i'm losing my gut here

    • okay i'm convinced this game is indie level status. i'm sorry but if you can only afford a high school student to make music for you, i

i dont know what to say. i have a feeling i might know the reason why they sold the game to talkweb.

i mean lucky for the guy to score such a position at such an age but his amateurity is so blank and clear. is there just not enough of a workforce in china? holy shit

        Loading editor
    • What reason..?

And then you realize that talkweb literally releases just premiums and lazy levels.

    • At first I was intrigued by this world.

But after looking at this discussion, the future of PVZ2C is scaring me.

        Loading editor
    • The nightmares have begun a year ago. And if you believe this is bad, this is actually the BEST thing TalkWeb made.

The updates from 2017-18 (except JM, which was the last update PopCap made and it's great) were so jam-packed with premiums, you'd be thinking that 2C would be dying.

        Loading editor
    • Pvz 2 never gets new updates that are good, but Pvz 2 C gets great updates. UNFAIR!!!

        Loading editor
    • Say that when a lot of the recent updates are lazy levels and constant premium

    • Make earning puzzle pieces easier.

        Loading editor
    • I actually think Steam Ages is the worst thing TalkWeb made in terms of quality. TalkWeb's previous plants and zombies, despite being premiums and don't even have that of an important role, still have way higher qualities than these SA plants and zombies.

        Loading editor
    • More original than Chinese MD content tho.

        Loading editor
    • Doesn't matter. The quality is still pure bullshit anyway. I always put quality over quantity.

Steam Ages fits few of those.

      • Variety: Main reason it sucks' the fact that its levels are incredibly repetitive, being mainly just reskins and Gentlemen.
      • Balanced stuff: Lack of variety makes it pathetically easy. The plants and zombies aren't as bad but are unbalanced:
        • Lily of Alchemy can deal absurd damage quickly.
        • Fanilla is a worse Laser Bean with a Monkey King Bar. His Plant Food is very impractical and he can only be upgraded by loot boxes.
