2012[]

August 20: Plants vs. Zombies 2 is announced.

2013[]

January 16: A release date is announced: June 30, 2013.
May 6: A new release date is announced: July 9, 2013. The name Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time is revealed and the first trailer was released on YouTube.
June 3: Another YouTube trailer is made, which lets people find out that PopCap was making the game to be released first on iOS and Android, and on other platforms later on. The said trailer featured Crazy Dave preparing to go back in time.
June 13: Three "secret transmissions" from the game were publicly revealed, one for each area (Ancient Egypt, Pirate Seas, Wild West)
June 26: PopCap Games announced that Plants vs. Zombies 2 will be delayed to later in the summer. The first Behind the Brainz video - What's New was released.
July 9: PopCap soft released the game to Australia and New Zealand.
July 24: The fourth secret transmission was released, introducing the Power Ups to the game.
August 2: The first update for the game, the 1.1 update, was released.
August 5: The second Behind the Brainz video - New Worldz was released.
August 7: The fifth secret transmission was publicly revealed, yet again featuring the Wild West world.
August 8: An update for the app was released, adding a teaser for Far Future.
August 10: Started development under Far Future.
August 13: The third Behind the Brainz video - New Plants was released.
August 14: The fourth Behind the Brainz video - New Zombies was released.
August 15: The game was released worldwide for iOS devices.
August 26: The 1.2 update for the app was released to fix some bugs.
September 10: The 1.3 update for the app was released to fix some bugs.
September 12: PopCap soft released the game for Android to China and says that the game will come out for Android (worldwide) the coming fall.
October 23: The 1.5 update was released for iOS, adding improved graphics, Piñata Party, and introducing a victory theme for the Ultimate Battle sound track.
October 23: The game was released for Android devices worldwide.
November 8: The 1.6 update was released for iOS and Android, tweaking Piñata Party alerts.
December 3: A soft release of the 1.7 update was released for some users only.
December 11: The 1.7 update was released worldwide for iOS and Android devices, which added a new map design, Turbo Button to speed up the game, Gargantuars, and changed gameplay speed and sun values. This was so far the biggest update in the game.
December 23: The 1.8 update was released for iOS translating the Piñata Party alerts.
December 24: The 5 Days of Feastivus began, with a new Piñata Party level every day (from 12/24 through 12/29) with a winter theme.

2014[]

January 28: Info about the Dr. Zomboss fights was released.
January 29: The 1.9 update was soft released, adding the Dr. Zomboss level in Ancient Egypt.
February 5: The 1.9 update was officially released in the Google Play Store and the App Store.
March 6: The 2.0 update was released, bringing back Dr. Zomboss in Pirate Seas and later in Wild West.
March 27: The 2.1.1 update along with Far Future world was released. Zen Garden also returned in this update.
April 30: Far Future Zomboss level was released. Some Zombies got new birthday costumes.
May 1: The 2.2 update was released. Birthdayz Parties began, with a new Piñata Party everyday until the end of May and had a birthday party theme, and the release of the Far Future Zomboss.
May 29: The 2.3 update was released with bug fixes and "polishing up" for the game.
June 10: Dark Ages: Part 1 gameplay footage was released, along with photos leaked from vandal.net.
June 19: The first Dark Ages Piñata Party became available, as well as the addition of the premium plant Hypno-shroom.
June 20: PopCap started development under Big Wave Beach.
June 24: The 2.4.1 update along with Dark Ages: Part 1 was released.
June 26: Magnet-shroom was confirmed to make a reappearance.
July 1: Advertisements for Dark Ages: Part 2 were released.
July 22: A new premium plant: Pea-nut, was released in the store.
July 24: New Piñata Parties were released, featuring plants and zombies from Dark Ages: Part 2.
July 24: Dark Ages: Part 2 trailer and Dev Diary videos were released.
July 25: The 2.5.1 update was soft released on some Android devices.
July 29: The 2.5.1 update along with Dark Ages: Part 2 was released worldwide.
August 1: The 2.6.1 update was released along with improving game stability.
August 27: A video about the upcoming, returning from Plants vs. Zombies game mode called Vasebreaker was released.
August 28: The 2.7.1 update was soft released for some Android devices, which features Vasebreaker.
September 2: The 2.7.1 update, which added Vasebreaker to the game, was officially released in Google Play and the App Store.
September 25:The 2.8.3 update was released only for iOS, containing fixes, improvements, and support for iOS 8.
September 30: PopCap announced an upcoming new Dev Diary.
October 4: Big Wave Beach: Part 1 trailer was released, featuring the return of the Chomper and seven new zombies.
October 7: Chomper became available in the in-game store to start off the teasers for Big Wave Beach starting the day after.
October 8: The Big Wave Beach: Part 1 teaser Piñata parties were released.
October 9: The 2.9.1 update was soft released on some Android devices, along with the release of Big Wave Beach.
October 13: A Dev Diary about Big Wave Beach Part 1 was released.
October 14: The 2.9.1 update was officially released on the App Store and Google Play Store. This version brings in Big Wave Beach Part 1, a costume-changer, and a limited-time premium plant, Ghost Pepper.
October 24: The Lawn of Doom Piñata Parties were released.
November 2: Big Wave Beach: Part 2 trailer was released, featuring new plants and new zombies.
November 4: Ghost Pepper was removed from the in-game store, and replaced with Homing Thistle, which costs 100 gems.
November 5: A new Dev Diary, featuring Big Wave Beach Part 2, was released through a video of Part 264 of Zack Scott's gameplay on Plants vs. Zombies 2. The 3.0.1 update was also soft released on some Android devices.
November 6: The Big Wave Beach: Part 2 teaser Piñata Parties were released, featuring Homing Thistle.
November 11: The 3.0.1 update was officially released on the App Store and the Google Play Store, with Big Wave Beach: Part 2 and the special-edition gem premium plant, Sweet Potato.
November 22: Big Wave Beach Part 2 Piñata Parties ended. Costumes for Lily Pad, Tangle Kelp, Bowling Bulb, Ghost Pepper, Homing Thistle and Guacodile were made available to be obtained.
November 26: The Food Fight Piñata Parties began, featuring Sweet Potato.
December 2: The Food Fight Piñata Parties ended. The 3.1.1 update was soft released on some Android devices, introducing Sap-fling.
December 3: The 3.1.1 update was released worldwide for Google Play and iTunes.
December 19: 18 Days of Feastivus Piñata Parties began.

2015[]

January 6: 18 days of Feastivus has ended, but the Frostbite Caves teaser parties began, along with the Dev Diary posted. Hurrikale was available in store.
January 7: A new trailer of Frostbite Caves was posted on the channel.
January 8: Soft release of 3.2.1 was available on some Android devices.
January 13: Frostbite Caves was officially released to Google Play and iTunes.
February 3: PopCap posted Valenbrainz trailer on their channel.
February 4: The Valenbrainz Piñata Party event began.
February 14: The Valenbrainz event ended.
February 17: Fire Peashooter became available in the in-game store for 109 gems. Also, Hurrikale changed prices from 129 gems to 99 gems.
February 18: Frostbite Caves Part 2 Piñata Party starts. The trailer for Frostbite Caves Part 2 was released.
February 19: Frostbite Caves Part 2 was soft released to the Google Play store and Android devices.
February 24: Frostbite Caves Part 2 was officially released to Google Play and iTunes. Prior to this update, plants that need real life money or gems to be bought now have a gold lock or a gem on its seed packet instead of a normal metal lock.
March 10: The Luck O’ The Zombie Piñata Party event began. Also, the special edition plants are back for sale until the end of these Party events.
March 11: The store was redone, adding the limited time plants and a new tab to purchase costumes.
March 19: The Luck O’ The Zombie event ended.
March 20: The 3.4.4 update was soft released to certain devices.
March 24: The 3.4.4 update was officially released on Android and iOS. The Springening Piñata Party event began, with the new plant, Dandelion.
April 9: The Springening Piñata Party event ended.
April 15: A Piñata Party event sponsored by the insurance company Progressive began.
April 30: A Dev Diary was released to showcase the Travel Log.
May 5: The Birthdayz Piñata Parties began. The 3.5.1 update was also released, including the Travel Log.
May 14: The Birthdayz Piñata Party event ended.
May 22: The Lost City Part 1 trailer was released, featuring new plants and new zombies.
May 26: The Lost City Part 1 Sneak Peek Piñata Parties started, along with the new premium plant Lava Guava.
May 27: The Lost City Part 1 Dev Diary was released, showcasing many new features in the Lost City Part 1 update.
May 28: The soft release for Lost City Part 1 became available to Android users.
June 2: The 3.6.1 update, featuring Lost City Part 1, was released worldwide.
June 21: Lost City Part 2 was announced and its trailer was released.
June 23: The 3.6.2 update was released with minor changes for some iOS devices only and a new premium plant, Toadstool was released for all devices. Also, the Lost City Part 2 Dev Diary was released.
June 25: Lost City Part 2 was soft released to Android devices.
June 30: The 3.7.1 update with Lost City Part 2 was officially released on Android and iOS.
July 7: The limited-time plants returned for a limited time. Piñata Parties were designed for each one of them.
July 25: The 3.8.1 update was soft released to Android devices.
July 28: The 3.8.1 update featuring the Summer Nights Piñata Parties and the new premium plant, Strawburst, was officially released on Android and iOS. Also, costumes for Pepper-pult, Tall-nut, Repeater, Winter Melon, Lightning Reed, Stallia and Gold Leaf were released. Finally, new repeatable quests for Wild West, Far Future and Dark Ages were released.
August 17: The Summer Nights Piñata Party event ended.
August 18: Neon Mixtape Tour Side A Sneak Peek Piñata Parties were released, along with the return of Cactus as a premium plant. In addition, Imitater was made purchasable for 159 gems for a limited time until August 25th and Strawburst was taken out of the store.
August 20: Neon Mixtape Tour Side A was soft released to Android devices.
August 22: The trailer for Neon Mixtape Tour Side A was released.
August 24: The Dev Diary of Neon Mixtape Tour Side A was released.
August 25: Neon Mixtape Tour, Side A, was released worldwide to Android and iOS devices. Premium plants got new seed packets and a new background. In addition, Squash was made purchasable for 159 gems for a limited time until September 1.
September 1: Torchwood was made purchasable for 179 gems for a limited time until September 16.
September 15: A video showcasing Electric Blueberry was released, also featuring two unreleased seed packets (Pirate Seas on Spikeweed and Dark Ages on Sun-shroom and Puff-shroom).
September 16: The Dev Diary for Neon Mixtape Tour Side B was released.
September 17: The Neon Mixtape Tour Side B sneak peek Piñata Parties were released. Neon Mixtape Tour Side B was soft released for some Android users.
September 22: The 4.0.1 update, along with Neon Mixtape Tour Side B, was officially released on iOS and Android.
October 6: The Progressive Piñata Party event started, giving x2 prizes (coins and gems) and 1 free replay.
October 13: The Progressive Piñata Parties ended.
October 15: The 4.1.1 update was soft released for certain Android users, featuring Lawn of Doom Piñata Parties and Jack O' Lantern. Also, plants gained from worlds outside Player's House gained their own seed packets with world-based backgrounds.
October 20: The 4.1.1 update was officially released to Android and iOS devices, bringing Jack O' Lantern, the recall button, the world-based seed packets, and new zapped sprites for Octo Zombie structured zombies.

October 21: The Lawn of Doom 2015 event began with the return of Sweet Potato.

May 13: The 4.8 update was soft released, bringing the Wasabi Whip and the Time Twister event. Almanac's color was changed to blue. In addition, the Birthdayz Piñata Parties have ended.
May 16: The 4.8 update was released worldwide.
May 21: The 4.9 update was released exclusively for the iOS devices in response to the bug with no content available in the in-game store.
June 16: The 5.0 update was soft released on Android, featuring the new plant Explode-O-Nut.

July 21: The 5.1.1 update was released for Android, introducing Kiwibeast and putting Imitater and Dandelion on sale.
July 27: The 5.1.1 update was officially released worldwide, featuring Kiwibeast, Beghouled Beyond parties until August 10th, and the Aloe, Salut! Epic Quest, that upon completion rewards players with Aloe.

September 27: The 5.3.1 update was released for Android.
September 29: The Big Brainz event began.
October 7: The 5.4.1 update was soft released for certain users.
October 12: The 5.4.1 update was released for Android, featuring a new premium plant, Witch Hazel, and returning plants, Jack O' Lantern and Ghost Pepper. Also, The Big Brainz event ended. As of this update, support for IOS 6 was removed, and support for IPhone 3GS and IPod Touch 4th gen was discontinued.
October 18: The Lawn of Doom 2016 event began.
November 2: The Lawn of Doom 2016 event ended, but the Plants vs. Zombies Heroes promotional event began.
November 10: The 5.5.1 update was soft released for certain users.
November 15: The release of the 5.5.1 update. The Plants vs. Zombies Heroes promotional event ended, but the Food Fight Piñata Parties began, showcasing the new Parsnip. Sweet Potato also makes a return. You can also watch ad to get free gems or retry for Endless Zone.

2017[]

January 3: The Feastivus Piñata Parties ended.
January 5: The 5.7.1 version is released for Android, introducing the Piñata Quests and the Plant upgrade system for the Seed Packets, which allow plants to be leveled up to Level 20, increasing Damage, Recharge Rate, Toughness, and more (dependent on certain plants; e.g, Instants, Offensive Plants, and Defensive Plants). World-based Piñatas can be bought in the store for gems; with other Piñatas for money. This version fixes also some bugs. Costumes were removed from Store and replaced with Piñatas. Almanac is now accessiable from seed selection screen.
January 10: The 5.7.1 version is fully released worldwide, for both iOS and Android.
February 7: The 5.8.1 version is fully released worldwide, for both iOS and Android, and adds new levels to Ancient Egypt (26~35) and Modern Day (35~44), as well as starting the 2017 Valenbrainz event with the new Premium Plant Hot Date. Almanac design was redesigned to better match with Plant upgrade system. The Epic Quest - Gem Jam 2 was added and has same levels as Gem Jam with reward increased to 60 gems.
- On the iOS version, the minimum version requirement was changed to iOS 8 (previously iOS 7). This removed support for iPhone 4.
February 17: The 2017 Valenbrainz event ended.
March 14: The 5.9.1 version is released, adding new levels to Far Future (26~35) and a new Piñata Hunt mode. Also, the 2017 Luck O' The Zombies event starts and a new Premium Plant Caulipower was added. Three days later, higher levels for the plant upgrade system is added. The Epic Quests - Gem Jam 3 and Gem Jam 4 were also added.
March 24: The 2017 Luck O' The Zombies event ended.
April 4: The Springening Piñata Parties began.
April 5: Dandelion has returned for a limited time. However, it can now only be bought with real money, instead of gems.
April 19: The Springening Piñata Parties ended.
April 25: The 6.0.1 version has been released and adds new levels to Pirate Seas (26~35) and nerfed some levels. Dynamic Difficulty was removed from this game and forcing all levels to play as normal difficulty.
May 2: The Birthdayz Piñata Parties began.
May 12: The Birthdayz Piñata Parties ended.
June 2: The 6.1.1 was soft released for certain Android devices, containing new levels Jurassic Marsh (33~42) and new plant Electric Peashooter.
June 7: The 6.1.1 version has been released and adds new levels to Jurassic Marsh (33~42). Quests can give now gems. Also, a new Premium Plant, Electric Peashooter has been added to the store. Zombies can't no longer drop coins or gems.
June 27: The Summer Nights 2017 starts.
July 7: The Summer Nights 2017 ends.
July 18: The 6.2.1 version has been released and adds new levels to Wild West (26~35). Added info button to items in the store and news at main start screen. Zombies can now drop coins again. Some levels were nerfed to be easier for new players. The old Epic Quests were removed and Gold Bloom becomes premium plant.
July 21: Scoring Piñata Parties starts.
July 23: Scoring Piñata Parties ends. Also, Progressive Piñata Parties starts.
July 31: Progressive Piñata Parties ends. Also, Beghouled Beyond starts.
August 7: Beghouled Beyond ends. Also, Progressive Piñata Parties starts again.
August 14: Progressive Piñata Parties ends. Also, Time Twister starts.
August 24: Time Twister event ends. Also, The Big Brainz event starts.
August 29: The 6.3.1 version has been released and adds Solar Tomato to the store. Inzanity quest was introduced along with this update. Ultimate Battle and Demonstration Minigame music were removed forcing these levels to play their normal world's music.
October 5: The 6.4.1 version has been soft released for certain users.
October 10: The 6.4.1 version was officially released for all users. This update brings back Ghost Pepper, Jack O' Lantern, Witch Hazel and Sweet Potato. The Inzanity quest stays in this update.
October 17: Lawn of Doom Piñata Parties starts.
November 2: Lawn of Doom event ends.
November 14: Food Fight event starts.
November 21: The 6.5.1 version has been released and prepares the Feastivus event, along with Holly Barrier.
November 30: Food Fight event ends.
December 12: Feastivus event starts and also higher levels for Plant upgrade system is added.

2018[]

January 2: Feastivus event ends.
February 7: The 2018 Valenbrainz event starts.
February 16: The 2018 Valenbrainz event ends.
March 8: The 6.6.1 update has been soft released for certain users.
March 13: The 6.6.1 update is officially released, adding in a new game mode, Battlez, new Travel Log quests and more. Starting from this version all plants are able to upgrade their level max. Gold Bloom and Electric Currant now have Premium background seed.
March 27: The Springening Pinata Parties begin, along with the return of a premium plant, Dandelion.
April 6: The Springening Pinata Parties end.
April 26: The 6.7.1 update has been soft released for certain users.
May 1: The 6.7.1 update is officially released, introducing the new Power Mints. There are also some notable changes, such as the Brain Buster Mummy Memory being removed from Ancient Egypt and being replaced by normal levels.
June 5: The 6.8.1 update is soft released for certain users.
June 12: The 6.8.1 update is officially released, introducing three new Power Mints.
August 20: The 6.9.1 update is soft released for certain users.
August 28: The 6.9.1 update is officially released, grouping plant families for almost all plants and adding new game modes such as Buffz & Bruisez. Endangered plants now match with player's level.
November 5: The 7.0.1 update is soft released for certain users.
November 8: The 7.0.1 update is officially released, introducing the new Mastery Levels, new Plants such as Sling Pea, Appease-mint, and Winter-mint and a brand new Zombie, the Cardio Zombie. This update also fixed a lot of bugs. You can read the patch notes here.

2019[]

February 6: The 7.1.1 update is officially released, introducing the Snap Pea, Ail-mint and the Enforce-mint as well as reworking Ancient Egypt Days 1-10 to be more accessible for new players, changing the Preview images for Worlds and allowing players to change their Arena icons. This update also fixed a lot of bugs. You can read the patch notes here
March 12: The 7.2.1 update is officially released, introducing Z-Mech from Garden Warfare 2 & Heroes as a Arena exclusive mini boss, the Conceal-mint and a Reload button for all Last Stand format levels. This update also fixed a lot of bugs. You can read the patch notes here
April 30: The 7.3.1 update is officially released, introducing #caketank and adding Zombies on Your Lawn as limited Arena exclusive events, in celebration of Plants vs Zombies 10th anniversary. It also introduces two new plants, the Zoybean Pod and the Dazey Chain as rewards with the brand new Seasons feature added to Arena. Zomboss can also now start appearing in Arena matches starting from this update. Boosterama is an added feature to matches where all Plants will all be boosted upon planting. June 19: The 7.4.1 update is officially released, with 2 new plants which were called Enlighten-mint and Electrici-tea. The expansions of Ancient Egypt, Pirate Seas, Wild West, Far Future, Jurassic Marsh, and Modern Day have been removed from the world map and are now in Event Epic Quest. It also brings the new touch-effect when the player touches the advertisement in the main menu screen. This update also fixed a lot of bugs. You can read the patch notes here
July 2: The 7.4.2 update is released. This update so far only fixed some bugs and improvements.
July 30: The 7.5.1 update is released, featuring 3 new plants, which are Blastberry Vine, Pokra, and Imp Pear. It also adds a new zombie called the Imp Pear Imp. Battlez is also renamed to Arena. Cabbage-pult is now classified as Player's House obtainable plant in the Almanac. Aloe now has the premium background. This update also fixes a lot of bugs. You can read the patch notes here.
September 5: The 7.6.1 update was soft-released, featuring a new plant known as Pyre Vine. This update also gave a lot of buffs to Torchwood and fixed a lot of bugs.
September 10: The 7.6.1 update was internationally released.
October 22: The 7.7.2 update was officially released, featuring two new plants, which bring back Pumpkin from the first game and the brand new plant known as Ice Bloom. This update also fixed a lot of bugs.
December 10: The 7.8.1 update was officially released, featuring a new plant Ultomato. Future updates required you to use a 64-bit iOS device with iOS 9 or later.

2020[]

January 18: Blooming Heart changed from being premium to requiring 150 seeds to unlock.
February 7: The 7.9.1 update was soft-released, adding Dartichoke and Penny's Pursuit. Hot Date was also shown in the almanac and had its status changed to that of a seed-unlockable plant. iOS Players of 7.8 were given a notice that the game's minimum requirements would be at least iOS 9. This update also changes many things in the gameplay. For example, there are 8 world keys added for the player instantly but it is unknown what they are used for. And the animation to start a level also changes as well: it no longer switches between the lawn to the zombie side. October 21: The 8.5.1 update was released. It added a calendar system, new zombie: ZCorp Consultant and two new plants: Headbutter Lettuce and Boingsetta. Due to recently added calendar system, Torchwood is now unlocked after collecting 100 seed packets or getting Day 7 introduction reward.
December 15: The 8.6.1 update was released, adding Hocus Crocus and Stickybomb Rice. This update also fixes some bugs.

2021[]

February 2: The 8.7.1 update was soft-released. It added two new plants: Draftodil and Gloom Vine and a new zombie: ZCorp HelpDesk. It also made costumes for Peashooter, Sunflower, and Wall-nut permanently obtainable.
February 4: The 8.7.2 update was soft-released, fixing some bugs.
February 10: The 8.7.2 update was internationally released.
February 22: The 8.7.3 update was internationally released.
March 30: The 8.8.1 update was soft-released. It includes two new plants: Boom Balloon Flower and Pea Vine.
April 5: The 8.8.1 update was released internationally. Future updates require Android users to update to KitKat 4.4 or later.
May 11: The 8.9.1 update was soft-released. It includes replacing world keys with keys, creating a new progression system, and Inferno, a new plant. This update also introduces a new Loading Screen art, which changes in every new update to add new plants. Some levels were also again nerfed. Support for Android 4.1-4.3 (Jelly Bean) was dropped requiring Android users to update to at least version 4.4 (KitKat) or later.
May 17: The 8.9.1 update was internationally released.
May 20: The 8.9.2 update was released on iOS. It fixed a bug regarding the game not being able to run on older iOS devices.
June 21: The 9.0.1 update was soft-released.
June 28: The 9.0.1 update was internationally released. This update had: optimized the calendar, added a battery and RAM limit for the game, Ancient Egypt Days 1-4 were reworked to be easier for new players, a new loading screen art, other bugs fixed and a new plant Solar Sage.
August 4: The 9.1.1 update was soft-released, it includes two new plants: Power Vine and Noctarine as well as a new zombie, ZCorp Chair Racer. Buffed Snow Pea, Snapdragon, Chomper, Jack O' Lantern, and Electric Currant. The Travel Log was also restyled with new UI. A brand new lawn for Big Brainz Event. It also removed two levels of each expansion epic quest.
August 11: The 9.1.1 update was internationally released.
September 15: The 9.2.1 update was soft-released.
September 23: The 9.2.1 update was released, adding the Heath Seeker, new Loading Screen art, new UI for Travel Log and Daily Calendar, a brand new lawn for the new Autumn Harvest Event, and the new Rent-a-Plant game mechanic.
September 30: The 9.2.2 update was released, fixing bugs.
November 15: The 9.3.1 update was soft-released.
November 18: The 9.3.1 update was released, preparing this year’s Food Fight event, as well as adding Iceweed, Piñata, icon, and calendar improvements, new limited time events, feature unlock adjustments, and and new Loading Screen art. Starting from this version Pirate Seas can be unlocked after finishing Ancient Egypt, due to difficulty ramp and game modes through game progress. Shortly after the update released, it was announced that starting with the next major update, the minimum supported iOS version would be iOS 10, thus removing support for iPad 2, iPad (3rd generation), iPad Mini (1st generation), iPod Touch (5th generation), and iPhone 4S.
December 10: The 9.4.1 update was soft-released.
December 13: The 9.4.1 update was released, adding Feastivius events, new Carnival Themed Zombies, New Arena and Rift Challenges, two new plants Teleportato Mine and Tiger Grass, new limited Time Events and Celebrations, updated Loading Screen art, and bug fixes. The game button's design was redesigned. Support for iPad 2, iPad 3rd gen iPod touch 5th gen, iPad mini 1st gen, and iPhone 4S was removed as the minimum supported IOS requirements for the game were moved to iOS 10 or later.

February 8: The 9.5.1 update was released, adding the Blockoli and Buttercup along with new Loading Screen art. The Ancient Egypt levels got tweaked to be easier for new players as well some bug fixes. Boingsetta and Hocus Crocus can be upgraded now to Mastery. The new Thymed Events were also added.
March 30: The 9.6.1 update was soft-released.
April 4: The 9.6.1 update was released, adding Bramble Bush, Springening, and Birthdayz Thymed Events, New Arena and Rift Challenges, along with new Loading Screen art.
May 10: The 9.7.1 update was soft-released.
May 18: The 9.7.1 update was released, adding Rhubarbarian, new loading screen art, new Zen Garden Daily Quest, Arena and Rift Challenges, and some bug fixes. The offers to get coins or gems were added.

Thymed Event, the ability to level up Gold Leaf and Thyme Warp, redesigned Piñata reward screen, the ability to unlock plant via collecting Seed Packets, removed the ability to skip any part of the tutorial, Pyramid of Doom unlock was adjusted from 12th to 25th level, the ability to delete player's account, and various bug fixes.
September 20: The 10.0.1 update was released, adding two new plants: Vamporcini and Meteor Flower, new Harvest Festival and Lawn of Doom Thymed Events, new loading screen art, a price decrease for "Rent a Seed Slot" and bug fixes. Additionally, the support for IOS 10 was discontinued, thus removing the support for the iPhone 5, iPhone 5C and 4th generation iPad. Also for Android, the minimum version was changed to Android 5.0 (Lollipop), formerly Android 4.4 (KitKat).
October 31: The 10.1.1 update was released, adding a new plant Chilly Pepper, and a new zombie Nutcracker Zombie, Food Fight (Thymed Event) and Festivals Thymed Events returns and bug fixes.
December 9: The 10.2.1 (10.2.2 on iOS/iPadOS) update was released, adding a new plant Bun Chi, Lunar Zoo Year Thymed Events returns and new The Zombosseum and Mega Gatling Pea's Winter Adventure Thymed Events, new Almanac design to allow player sorting and filtering, new Seed packet background which more close to Plants vs. Zombies 3 design and bug fixes. Also, Cactus is redesigned that now can grow up to directly taking down Balloon Zombie just like the ability in the first game.

March 8: The 10.3.1 update was released, adding two new Plants: Bzzz Button and BoomBerry, The Big Top Extravaganza, and Luck O' the Zombie Thymed Events returned and bug fixes. Several Improvements like fixed UI issues with the Almanac and the Store, and additional improvements to the Almanac.
March 27: The 10.4.1 update was released, adding a new plant SeaFlora, The Springening and Birthdayz Thymed Events returned, fixed bugs, improvements and reworks. There are several fixes and reworks to a few Penny Pursuit Perks and the Almanac.
March 29: The 10.4.2 update was released, adding a new plant MayBee.
April 24: The 10.5.1 update was released, adding Ducky Tube Zombie in three varieties, Basic, Conehead and Buckethead. Big Beach Brawl Thymed Events returned. Aloe Buffed. Gold Leaf, Hot Potato, Perfume-shroom, and Thyme Warp can now be used across all worlds. There are a few Penny's Pursuit perks fixes and other improvements. The minimum supported version for Android was changed to Android 7.0 (Nougat), formerly Android 5.0 (Lollipop).
April 29: The 10.5.2 update was released.
June 13: The 10.6.1 update was released, adding two new Plants: Scaredy-shroom and Bamboo Spartan. Summer Nights Thymed Events returned, with Bug Fixes and Improvements. More Penny's Pursuit map were added and some bug fixes. Also in this update the font was changed and some text's size was increased.
June 16: The 10.6.2 update was released.
July 26: The 10.7.1 update was released, adding a new plant Sundew Tangler and a new zombie Catapult Zombie. Lawnbowl II and Harvest Festival Thyme Events returned, with Bug Fixes and Improvements. Several Bug Fixes and Improvements is about memory loss and leaks. Later in this version, Kiwibeast can be purchased with gems instead of real money.
September 2 (iOS) or September 5 (Android): The 10.8.1 update was released, added a new plant: Bean Sprout. The Zombosseum II Thymed Events returned, Levitater and Tomb Tangler were buffed, with a few Bug Fixes and Improvements.
October 17: The 10.9.1 update was released, adding two new plants: Nightcap and Cran Jelly. The Lawn of Doom and Food Fight Thymed Events returned with bug fixes, fixed several UI issues and updated several plants’ animations. Tumbleweed can be upgraded now to Mastery.
November 28: The 11.0.1 update was released, adding two new plants: Bud'uh Boom and Ice-shroom. Feastivus ZCorp Takeover Thymed Events were added, with some bug fixes. Around this update the gems rewards for extra hard levels & account registration were decreased and the cost to play Thymed Events levels was increased.

2024[]

January 29: The 11.1.1 update was released, adding a new plant: Dragon Bruit. Lunar Zoo Year Thymed Events returned, more Penny's Pursuit maps were added, with some bug fixes.
February 15: The 11.2.1 update was released, adding a new plant: Electric Peel. Luck O' the Zombie and The Springening Thymed Events returned, Scaredy-shroom was buffed, Lily Pad and Tangle Kelp can now be used across all worlds, with some bug fixes.
March 26: The 11.3.1 update was released, adding 2 new plants: Sea-shroom and Guard-shroom. Big Wave Beach levels 7, 9, 13, 15, 16, 20, 25 & 28 were changed to be easier, along with some bug fixes. Loading Screens from previous versions can also appear instead of latest one.
