List of scrapped content for Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. It should be noted that these descriptions are not fabricated but are primarily found in various versions of the game's code.

Boss Mode[]

Boss Mode was going to return from the first Garden Warfare, but was scrapped due to negative feedback given about the mode and its unpopularity among players in Garden Warfare. Placeholder icons for the mode exist in the files. The Plants vs. Zombies section of the Jazwares showroom at the 2016 New York Toy Fair displayed an unreleased "Penny RV" toy, which instead of using a finished or prototype model of the toy, used concept art of Boss Mode in Garden Warfare 2.[1] The packaging and concept art used for the toy shows that Crazy Dave's RV would've had a Corn Launcher weapon, possibly meaning Boss Mode could've had more attacking abilities or even primary weapons, and could have possibly played more similarly to the Butterhawk. A Boss Mode icon for Dr. Zomboss appears in an early screenshot of the game's character-select screen found in the files.

Unused/Scrapped spawnables[]

Power Lily[]

Power Lily was originally planned to be a spawnable potted plant, but was scrapped for an unknown reason. Her ability was to raise the attack damage of nearby plants using a beam similar to Hover Goat-3000's Damage Buff Booster Beam. However, this was unfinished, and she uses Sunflower's Heal Beam when hacked in the game.

Gallery[]

Magnifying Grass[]

Magnifying Grass was originally planned to be a spawnable potted plant, but was scrapped for an unknown reason. Her ability was to reduce the damage taken by zombie attacks by latching to zombies using a unique beam. However, this was unfinished, and she uses Sunflower's Heal Beam when hacked in the game.

Gallery[]

Fence Weed[]

Fence weed was originally planned to be a spawnable weed and Graveyard Ops enemy. It appears to be a plant equivalent to Coffin Zombie and was presumably replaced with Vase Weed in this regard.

Gallery[]

Crystal Guardian[]

Like the Zombot Turrets in the original Garden Warfare game, the Crystal Guardian was originally planned to be upgradable, having three phases which dealt different amounts of damage. It was ultimately decided to have both turrets be built at their third stage by default, and thus the "Mark I" and "Mark II" went unused.

Gallery[]

Laser Goat[]

The Laser Goat is an unused character that is only obtainable through hacking. It was intended to be used in an unused mode internally named "Team Vanquish Goats." It is on both the plants and the zombies' side. It has green armor if it's on the plants' side, and dark purple armor if it's on the zombies' side. It can jump high and even has a double jump like the Imp.

Its primary weapon has an unfinished name, reading "ID_CU5_H_WEAPON_LASERGOAT_PRIMARY" when vanquished by it. Its icon, sounds, and projectiles are the same as Hover Goat-3000's. Its primary weapon has infinite ammo and can overheat, and during the overheat penalty it uses the particle effect from Citron's Orange Beam.

Abilities[]

  • Damage Buff Booster Beam - Identical to Hover Goat-3000's Damage Buff Booster Beam.
  • Healbelch - An ability that heals teammates and Laser Goat. It uses the Heal Beam of Science as a placeholder icon and data from the Mega Heal Bomb for the ability in gameplay.
  • Impulse Grenade - An ability that tosses a grenade that explodes and deals 10 damage. It uses both item and icon from the Gravity Grenade.

Scrapped game mode[]

  • Team Vanquish Goats - Game mode that first appeared in the files of the Frontline Fighters DLC. It has functional gameplay and is supported on all of the Team Vanquish maps except for Backyard Battleground. According to a tweet from Justin Wiebe, this mode for the two goats was supposed to be an alternate mode to Cats vs. Dinos.

Scrapped and unused abilities[]

Unknown spike ability[]

It is confirmed to be a scrapped ability for the Cactus carried over from the original Garden Warfare game.

Sprint Smash Weapon[]

An ability for the Torchwood that acts similarly to the All-Star's Sprint Tackle ability, Torchwood will rush forward and smash his hand on the floor, dealing 75 damage to all zombies within the radius. Confirmed to be scrapped.

Bling Potato Nugget Mines[]

Bling version of Potato Nugget Mines. They have a unique model and effects but have no icon.

Armor Piercing Peach[]

Unused alternative EMPeach. It doesn't stun, but it deals 50 damage and ignores armor.

Bling Heal Station[]

Bling version of the Zombie Heal Station. It has a unique model and effects but has no icon.

Impflier drone[]

It seems to be a scrapped ability for the Imp. Its primary weapon is a laser and can call in a Cone Strike like Zombot Drone. It had appeared in the E3 trailer for Garden Warfare 2.

Future Nut[]

Scrapped variant for the Tall-nut Battlement which would have given plants behind it a damage boost. It has an icon and may have been scrapped due to its range being presumably difficult to recognize. In earlier builds of the game, the ability was usable and had a model that could be seen in game.

Buff Bubble[]

Scrapped early version of Hover-Goat's Damage Buff Booster Beam. When used, it creates a damage boosting aura around Hover-Goat 3000 that buffs teammates and debuffs enemies.

Techno Shield[]

Scrapped Hover-Goat ability. It's a smaller, wider version of Citron's Peel Shield.

Auto Turret[]

Unused alternate Big Bolt Blaster. It's an AI controlled Big Bolt Blaster that automatically tracks and shoots at plants. This may have been an inspiration for the Heavy Helpers

Cannon Rodeo Exit[]

A unused ability of Captain Deadbeard it is not known what he did but it could be that when the player is in a chase he uses the ability to throw himself away.

Unused Bosses[]

In the game's files, there are multiple unused bosses that can be found. Most of them have very little functionality, but others do. Some, such as Zombot, only have an icon. All of the bosses have names as well.

Imitater[]

Imitater is an unused plant Boss Hunt boss. It was originally intended to appear in the story missions of the game, but it is unknown where at in the story he would've appeared. He has leftover bait, which is the Stick of Butter. It has the unique ability to transform into various zombie bosses. In the launch build of the game, all he could do was move around and use his main attack but as the game got updated more progress was made. He was very close to being finished but was becoming too expensive to develop and was eventually scrapped. The data for Imitater remains in the files, albeit slightly buggy.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike other games, the characters it transforms into keep the Imitater's color scheme, face paint, and beret.

Pup and Wolf[]

A Z-Mech that is also identified as a boss. It comes with its own Imp called Renegade Imp in the coding. It was originally intended to appear in story Boss Hunts. Its bait was the Cyber Jerky. It's unknown why he was scrapped, but it was most likely to work on the Imitater boss. It would have had 500 health and had 3 abilities:

  • Cluster Cannons: Same effect as the Missile Madness of the regular Z-Mech, seems to home in a lot more.
  • Smokey Motors: It would summon an airstrike the rains down 5 Zombie Stink Clouds.
  • Gravity Missile: It would launch 5 Gravity Grenades at its target(s).

Super Chili Bean[]

Unused Variation of the Super Bean, in a similar fashion to Giga Gargantuar. It was originally intended to appear in story Boss Hunts similar to other bosses. Its bait was a bottle of hot sauce. Its attacks have red effects instead of blue effects. Has an icon as well. It's unknown why he was scrapped, but it was most likely either because of how difficult he was or because he was too similar to Super Bean to be a boss hunt. He has his own abilities as well, and they are:

  • Chili Laserbean - A more powerful version of Super Bean's Laserbean ability.
  • Chili Teleport - A teleport ability, although it does not actually work due to the boss' unfinished nature.
  • Explosive Teleport - A teleport ability that also launches Chili Bean Bombs.
  • Chili Warp - Its warp ability, similar to Super Bean's warp ability.
  • Chili Charge - Similar to Super Bean's Overbean ability, except it does way more damage.
  • Chili Twirl - Very unfinished, seems to do no damage at all.

His bait description is:

Super Hot. Super Hot. Super Hot.

Fiddles the Crab[]

Fiddles the Crab is another unused story Boss Hunt boss. Unlike the other bosses above, it has very little leftovers in the game's files. What remains is its icon and placeholders for its appearance in the Boss Hunt. Its bait is a pair of Swim Trunks. It is unknown what its abilities would've been.

Orange Juice Robot[]

The Orange Juice Robot is another unused story Boss Hunt boss. Compared to Fiddles the Crab, it had much more data left over in the launch build, though most of it was removed in later versions. It had wavedata, which would spawn Citrons, bait data, a slot icon, and placeholder spawndata that spawns in Giga Torchwood as a placeholder. Its bait is the Imbalanced Breakfast. It is unknown what it's abilities would've been. It later made an appearance in the comics.

Beet Boxers[]

The Beet Boxers are another unused boss, except unlike every other unused boss, they were intended to appear in Graveyard Ops. Almost nothing is known about them, as they have very little leftovers in the game files, with the exception of placeholders, an icon, and a quest description for defeating them.

Early Sasquatch Hunt[]

The Sasquatch boss encountered in Boss Hunt was originally intended to appear in the story mode Boss Hunts. In older versions of the game, his hunt was playable on other maps, although quite unfinished. His original bait was a Soup Can, which has a model and icon.

There is also text present for the unfinished hunt. When played in earlier versions, the Sasquatch will spawn, but players will be sent into a loop of his Healing Burgers phase after damaging him due to it being unfinished.

Wishing Well[]

Scrapped Well

The Wishing Well

The Wishing Well was part of a scrapped donation system featured in the game, where players could travel to different Backyard Battlegrounds and leave Stars in other players' wishing well. However, this was removed due to cheating and exploit issues that might have occurred.

Tale of the Taco Unused Content[]

The Tale of the Taco event has many scrapped features that were left unused. An example of which is Talk-O, which would have been a telescope players could interact with to talk to the taco on the Town Hall. The taco was referred to as "the taco of your dreams." After the dialogue with the taco, the player would see a screen that would have shown rewards. It is presumed that these rewards would have been for Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, as the name for that game was also found within the UI setups for the reward screen.

Another thing left unused was a Propulsive Salsa mode. This mode would've been a take on Team Vanquish, and would have appeared during Week 2 of Tale of the Taco. For reasons likely relating to the release of Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville: Founders Edition, it was cut at the last minute. The gameplay of the mode is similar to normal Team Vanquish, except there are salsa pickups hidden around the map. These pickups would have given players a lot of buffs, such as low gravity.

Unused Story Mode Music[]

Unused story mode music can be found in the files. It is unknown what they would have been used for, but it is probably there because the story mode background music was going to have two versions.

Audio[]

Zombie version

Unused Great White North music[]

Great White North has 3 unused music tracks, all of which are for the zombies. They would have been used for the zombie takeover tracks, but only one of them was used.

Early Super Brainz design[]

An early design of Super Brainz sitting next to an Imp with a game controller on a red couch once appeared when players purchased the game on Origin and viewed its exclusive content page. At the Jazwares showroom at the 2016 New York Toy Fair, the box of an unreleased figure set of Super Brainz with Super Bean could be seen. As Jazwares likely didn't produce prototypes of the figures in time for the fair, they used unrendered images of an early Super Brainz model along with the Gatling Bot (despite the box saying Super Bean). The actual box art does use a render of the final Super Brainz model though.

Dr. Zomboss NPC[]

At a point in the game's development, Dr. Zomboss was going to have his own proper NPC but was cut for unknown reasons. The NPC would have likely been used in the Top Zombie Story Quests. In older versions of the game, it was possible to still interact with an NPC called "Branching Zomboss" by glitching your character into an area of the Backyard Battleground above the sewers but below the actual ground, and jumping in a specific spot in that area.

Attempting to interact with Branching Zomboss would give the dialogue "I got no Quests!" After responding with the only available option, being "What?", the dialogue "Come Back Later..." would be given, with both the response options of "YES" and "NO" ending the dialogue. The remnants of the NPC that could still be interacted with were later completely removed in an unknown update.

Crazy Dave idle animation[]

There exists an unused idle animation for Crazy Dave in the game. As Crazy Dave only appears for certain dialogue in the actual game, this is left unused.

Zomboss Cat-o-War[]

This was an early concept design for the Bot itself, this was only Featured in a "Live from PopCap" Live stream, But was Later Scrapped and Unused.
