โSuper Brainz Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 stickerbook description |
- For other uses, see Super Brainz (disambiguation).
Super Brainz is a recurring character within the Plants vs. Zombies franchise. Super Brainz is a superhero-like zombie who uses his fists to attack plants. His superhero attire isn't just for looks, as he has the ability to fly, float slightly in the air, energize parts of his body, and fire energy balls and other sort of projectiles out of his hands.
According to descriptions about him, Super Brainz is both delusional and vain, believing he is in a 1980s movie and is constantly being distracted by his own reflection, which has managed to work in his favor just as many times as it has worked against him. However, Super Brainz's backstory is inconsistent, as while Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 states he was created in a lab, Plants vs. Zombies Heroes shows Dr. Zomboss creating Super Brainz using the Hero-Tron 5,000, though this could simply be a retcon.
As of Plants vs. Zombies 3, Super Brainz has appeared in three games.
Origins[]
He could be a reference or parody of Superman as his overall design and abilities seem to be inspired by 1960's comic book superheroes. He even has a Clark Kent-like disguise that appears at the end of Zombopolis Apocalypse!, a mission that also has a parody of the first Superman comic cover.
It is possible that he could also be a reference to the character Ryu from the Street Fighter series. This is supported by the fact that his Super Ultra Ball resembles a special attack called the Hadoken from the series. In addition, the final punch of his three-hit Heroic Fists combo somewhat resembles the Shoryuken, another move performed by Ryu.
History[]
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2[]
- Main article: Super Brainz (PvZ: GW2)
Super Brainz's first appearance is in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 as one of the four new playable Zombie classes, acting as the zombie's melee class. He has 25 more health than the plant's melee class but can't instantly kill plants, instead having a three punch combo and has the ability to fire a weak laser beam from his fist by zooming in.
Super Brainz's abilities are the Super Ultra Ball, which fires a heavy damage projectile, Turbo Twister, which lets Super Brainz spin around, dealing light damage to plants in the way, and Heroic Kick, which lets Super Brainz kick himself forwards, dealing damage along the way.
As with the other playable classes in the Garden Warfare series, he has numerous Character variants based on him, each having their own traits which differentiates them from the standard base character.
Plants vs. Zombies Heroes[]
- Main article: Super Brainz (PvZH)
Super Brainz reappears in the turn-based mobile card game Plants vs. Zombies Heroes as the Brainy/Sneaky Zombie Hero and is the first Zombie Hero fought and obtained. He is created during the tutorial levels, as a basic Zombie is hit by Dr. Zomboss' Hero-Tron 5001, the only intentional character to be hit by the ray before it goes haywire.
His signature Superpower is Carried Away, which moves a zombie onto a selected empty lane, leading that zombie to do a bonus attack while his other Superpowers are Telepathy, Cut Down to Size, and Super Stench.
Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville[]
- Main article: Super Brainz (PvZ: BfN)
Super Brainz's latest appearance is in the third-person shooter game Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville as an Attack class who specializes in close range. Super Brainz has changed since his appearance in Garden Warfare 2, now having only 175 health, being able to charge his fist for a stronger and longer ranged attack, and losing his zoom beam in return for creating a shield when holding the zoom button instead, blocking attacks ahead of him when used.
While most of his abilities have stayed the same, his Heroic Kick has been replaced by Hyper Jump Thump, an ability that has him jump in the air before charging down, similar to Snapdragon's Swoop Slam.
Unlike Garden Warfare 2, Super Brainz no longer has any Character variants, but instead has a large number of character upgrades, some of which grant abilities to Super Brainz's primary weapon and abilities. Along with this, there is the Brainium Basher 9001 upgrade, which changes his charge-up punch and shield for a charge-up dash attack and an uppercut.

Trivia[]
- His huge chin is an exaggerated reference to the fact that many male superheroes (ex. Batman) have such large chins.
- In the Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare comic, he is, according to Rose, too powerful to become a goat. However, in the shooter games, he can be turned into one.
- Originally, Heroic Fists where going to have an "ammo" meter of 3 and instantly reload as seen in a GW2 trailer, this was most likely scrapped due to it being pointless
