Pumpkin is a defensive plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 that was added in the 7.7.2 update. He has high health and protects plants within him.
About
- For more information about this character, see Pumpkin.
Pumpkin is a seed packet unlockable premium vine, associated with Pumpkin's Safety Season of Arena. Pumpkin is acquired after collecting 100 Pumpkin seed packets.
He costs 150 sun and functions almost identically to the first game, however due to the mechanics change between games, Pumpkin has some slightly different functions. Like other vine plants in this game, Pumpkin's Plant Food effect will trigger regardless of if it's planted on another plant or not, meaning Pumpkin has the potential to duplicate Plant Food.
Another byproduct of being a vine plant is that it is now impossible to dig up a plant planted inside Pumpkin without first removing the Pumpkin itself. Aside from those and some minor stat changes however, Pumpkin is pretty much the same. Pumpkin absorbs 4000 damage per shot and his appearance changes at 1320 damage per shot and 2640 damage per shot before being destroyed at 4000 damage per shot.
He is unable to be planted on Tangle Kelp, Grave Buster, Hot Potato, and other vine plants. In both games, Pumpkin can be repaired with Wall-nut First Aid if it's unlocked.

SUN COST: 150
RECHARGE: 12
TOUGHNESS: 4000
PLANT FOOD POWER: Armor
FAMILY: Reinforce-mint
Pumpkins can be planted on top of other plants to provide a tough additional layer of armor.
Pumpkin may be a hollowed-out shell, but he still has a rich inner life filled with feelings, fantasies and surprisingly disappointing opinions.
Upgrades
Plant Food effect

When given Plant Food, Pumpkin will gain a protective shell of metal capable of absorbing 8000 DPS or one Gargantuar smash. It will also transfer the plant food effect to any suitable plant that it shelters. The shell of metal changes its appearance at 2000, 4000, and 6000 damage per shot before being destroyed at 8000 damage per shot.
Reinforce-mint effect
When boosted by Reinforce-mint, Pumpkin will be able to take an additional 8000 DPS, and his Plant Food effect will activate.

Strategies
While Pumpkins hasn't differed much in usage from the first game, there are still many plants that can benefit from him.
Because Pumpkin doesn't take up any space ahead, plants having a limited range makes a viable choice to pair with him. Three columns of Cold Snapdragon/Snapdragon could be used because Pumpkin is protecting the front column of them and this effectively increases the amount of damage done against the zombies.
Another good plant to pair with Pumpkin is Chomper. Since Chomper's range is limited to only 1 tile, it makes it obsolete compared to Toadstool. But this could be rectified by Pumpkin: by placing two columns of Chompers and placing Pumpkin on the Chomper(s) in the front, Chomper will be able to reach a zombie if they make it to Pumpkin.
Pumpkins also make a viable choice in Endless Zone levels. Partnering him with plants at the third column from the left protects them from Imps thrown by Gargantuars, thus minimizing their threat. Pumpkin also protects plants from zombies spawned during Surprise attacks.
Like in the first game, Pumpkin can be spammed over all of your plants to offer maximum defense. However, there are two main flaws with this strategy: one is Pumpkin's long reload time, which means that this strategy can only be achieved on exceptionally long levels (however this can be partly mitigated with Imitater or by instant recharging the Pumpkin with Plant Food), and the second is the presence of other vine plants, which means that the Pumpkins behind the first row could be replaced with more functional vines, like Pyre Vine or Blastberry Vine, which will see more use in the game. A bonus of this strategy that isn't in the first game is the existence of Reinforce-mint, which gives all the Pumpkins on the field a significant health buff and Plant Food in one go.
Note: Pumpkins do not stop Explorer Zombies, Troglobites, Turquoise Skull Zombie and Arcade Zombies from burning or crushing them instantly, along with the plant inside so avoid placing them near the front when these zombies appear.

- Prior to the 8.0.1. update, he was the only plant that didn't have any animations.
- The Pumpkin is the only vine plant that offers protection against certain instant kills.

- Pumpkin is so far the only premium plant officially associated with three different holiday events; these events being Lawn of Doom, Fall Food Fight, and Luck O' the Zombie.
- Glitter Zombie can kill Power Mints on Pumpkin. This is a glitch.
