Plant Puffballs to stun and poison zombies.

Penny

Puffball is a premium plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 that was introduced in the 8.2.1 update. He[1] explodes when planted, dealing poisonous damage to zombies in three different columns.

Zombies damaged by the poison will also be momentarily stunned, and planting multiple Puffballs will stack poison effects.

Origins

Purple-sporedPuffball.jpg

Puffball is based on, and named after, the puffball, a type of fungi which are known for bursting upon maturity and dispersing copious amounts of airborne spores.

Puffball's purple coloration makes him more specifically resemble a purple-spored puffball, (Calvatia cyathiformis), a large edible saprobic species of Calvatia mushrooms.

Strategies

Like all other poisonous plants, Puffball's main role in the player's arsenal is to counter armored enemies by bypassing their armor altogether and damage them directly. Out of the all these poisonous plants, Puffball may be the best, as his poison effects last forever and can be stacked unlimited times.

However, Puffball's lengthy cooldown to deal full damage makes it a poor choice against high health enemies without armor, in particular mechanical enemies and Gargantuars. Healer Zombie and Zombie Medusa are immune to poison effects, so using Puffball on them is a waste. Also, Healer Zombie can cure zombies and remove the poison effect caused by Puffball.

Due to him being an instant use plant, Puffball can sometimes be unreliable in levels where one can't lose plants. Compared with other instant-use plants, such as Cherry Bomb or Jalapeno, Puffball take less time to recharge and has a larger range.

Puffball doesn't have any explosive damage, thus targets such as Tombstone or Octopus cannot be damaged, but Imp Dragon Zombie can.
