Puddles are grid items added in the 10.9.1 update, fully implemented in the 11.3.1 update. They are effectively the water from Big Wave Beach which are able to be put on specific tiles. They are able to connect to each other, and there are two different types of puddle tiles with different mechanics for each. Both puddles can trigger specific plant abilities that only worked on water, like SeaFlora's multi-lane attack and Guacodile submerging underwater.
Shallow Puddles act as normal water tiles, with Lily Pads or Aqua Vines required for non-aquatic plants to be planted and Tangle Kelp cannot be planted on it unless a Aqua Vine is present there. They can be created by SeaFlora.
Pothole Puddles are deeper water puddles that are able to momentarily stun Gargantuars when they first step in them and instantly drown critters that enter them if there is not a Lily Pad on them. Unlike Shallow Puddles, Tangle Kelp can be planted on Pothole Puddles.
Overview[]
Both types of puddles will make zombies passing by have water wave effect under their feet and extinguish Explorer Zombie's and Torchlight Zombie's fire. Zombies passing through Pothole Puddles sink a bit, so they can attack ground plants such as Lily Pad. Non-aquatic plants will be drown if they entered the puddle in some way. Puddles will be removed if the tide of Big Wave Beach recedes below the tile it is placed on. Puddles spawned during a level can force plants to move to appropriate positions (drown them instead if they are land plants and there are not appropriate positions). The following zombies cannot drown in Pothole Puddles:
- Every type of Gargantuar
- Every zombie that originates from Big Wave Beach
- Zombies trapped in gum
- Zombies in Hamsterballs
- Every type of Zombot
- Treasure Yeti and its variants
- Ducky Tube and its variants
- Fast Swimmer Zombie
- Imp Cannon
- Stiltwalker Zombie
- Carnie Cannon
- Zcorpion Zombie
- Zombie King
- Zombie Bull
- Rodeo Legend Zombie
- Jurassic Bully
- Jurassic Rockpuncher
- Dodo Rider Zombie
- Troglobite
- All-Star Zombie
- Roman Caesar Zombie
- Cardio Zombie
- Z-Mech
- Every type of mechanical zombie
- Every type of flying zombie
- #caketank
- Raincoat Zombie with its raincoat
Deep Sea Gargantuar cannot be stunned by Pothole Puddles. Pothole Puddles emit bubbles every 3-10 seconds. Puddles cannot be spawned on the tiles with the following items:
- Gold Tiles
- Power Tiles
- Boost Tiles
- Tombstone
- Slider Tiles
- Trap Tiles
- Pirate Seas' water
- Big Wave Beach's water
- Minecarts and rails

Strategies[]
Puddle restricts the placement of your land plants and also limits your seed packet slots, especially in the Arena mode where the number of slots reminds you to reconsider some plants. You still have two options, one is to give up using Lily Pads, which is feasible in levels with few puddles, and use some aquatic or amphibious plants instead, but also be aware that all water-related plants have their own shortcomings. The second is to plant Aqua Vines, which have powerful attack methods in both states, and can serve as both the main damage output and a support plant. The puddle is also difficult to be destroyed, so it usually lasts until the end of a level. Compared to the tide mechanism in Big Wave Beach world, the puddle appears more stable and does not spawn any zombies underwater. However, the puddles comed out during the level still poses some threats, forcing your plants to move to achieve the effect of disrupting the formation. However, a puddle may not necessarily be something with only negative effects. Its existence let some amphibious plants such as SeaFlora and Electric Peel have attracted greater attention, while aquatic plants such as Sea-shrooms are excellent both as cannon fodder and damage methods. The unique feature of pothole puddle killing most types of zombies is also very interesting, allowing you to focus more on situations of other lanes without pothole puddles. But levels with such puddles often have flying zombies and other zombies who cannot be drowned, at this time, Tangle Kelp can be planted there, which is very effective against zombies like mechanical units. In addition, when not using Lily Pads and Aqua Vines, there are also some nice flying plants, such as Solar Sage, that can be used in levels with puddles. It is worth noting that the puddle prevents some powerful grid items from appearing in its tile, such as butter puddle and power tiles. This means that the range of Plant Food link effect is reduced, and some environment modifiers plants will be lowered their value in this type of level, especially non-Plant-Food state Lava Guava.
