Plot

After the events of Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, we can see Crazy Dave bidding farewell to his niece, Patrice Blazing, as she heads to summer camp via bus. Meanwhile however, a Zombie sneaks out a sleepy taco in which Crazy Dave caught scent of and ate it. With Crazy Dave drifting to sleep, Dr. Zomboss takes this as an opportunity to organize and launch an all out zombie attack against Neighborville. With no one to stop him, Zomboss and his zombie army employ his new Z-Fog technology to easily take over the city, renaming it to Zomburbia.

Three months after the take over, Patrice comes back from summer camp only to find Crazy Dave's House and the whole town in disrepair. Patrice is attacked by a nearby group of zombies, but with the help of some emergency seed packets her uncle gave her, she is able to defend herself. However, the zombies are everywhere! Can you, Patrice, and Crazy Dave fight back against the zombies and help rebuild Neighborville along the way?

To be continued...

Dr. Zomboss will send an entire army of zombies who are about to eat the habitants of Neighborville's brains!

Meanwhile, Crazy Dave and Patrice Blazing need your help to rebuild Neighborville and prepare a new fort in the Lost Keys Lake, including a sunflower bed and a zombie detector. However, the zombies are everywhere! Will the neighbors stay safe?

Glitches (Archived content)

  • After the first server update, the level progress bar was unintentionally hidden under the score bar. This was fixed in the 15.1 update.
  • During the Graveyard Trick 'Grave Danger!', a gravestone can rise on a tile occupied by a plant. The plant will function normally, but Plant Food and Tacos can't be used on it until the gravestone has been destroyed.
  • Under unknown conditions, the game can softlock at the end of the stage. This can be fixed either by digging up plants or force closing the game.
  • When a player tried to donate seeds in their club, a pop-up that said 'Donation has expired' would cancel the action and temporally remove the seed request from the player's list. This glitch was fixed in the second server update.
  • When a Crossing Guard throws a road cone onto a male Browncoat Zombie's head, the male zombie has a chance to become a female.
  • Sometimes, after a battle when the lawn is full, you can still hear the plants making sounds.

Trivia

  • Unlike the previous games, zombies (including the parts they drop) sink into the ground when defeated. In the previous games, they simply disappear under normal circumstances.
  • This game's previous version and Plants vs. Zombies Heroes are currently the only games to use portrait mode. However, it has now changed back to landscape.
  • This is the first time a game has directly referenced the comic series in a major way, as Patrice Blazing makes her debut in the game series.
  • In an advertisement of EA Access, now known as EA Play coming to Steam, Plants vs. Zombies 3 can be seen as one of the games featured in the advertisement, despite the game not being released on Steam or PC.
