For the version in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2, see Plant Family.

Plant Families is a feature in Plants vs. Zombies 2. Plants are divided into families which are mostly there to indicate which plant is influenced by which Power Mint. A colored circle with the appropriate family icon can be seen in the upper-left corner of seed packets.

Each family is named after the Power Mint with which it is associated. There are currently 14 families in the game.

Whenever you plant a Power Mint on the board, it'll do some damage or affect the zombies in some form, then boost the plants on the lawn that are members of the appropriate family. Boosting plants will increase their damage, toughness, sun-producing, and/or unique abilities to the plants' max level. With Buffz & Bruisez on, you can use Power Mints to boost the family that is currently having a strong buff. Avoid using Power Mints when their families are ineffective, since not even a Power Mint will make the plant do any damage to the zombies at all, unless the plant is at Mastery level.

  • Though Gold Bloom is in the Enlighten-mint family, the symbol is not present in the seed selection screen until you click on the seed packet. This is because the plant gains no bonus while the appropriate mint is active.
  • The Appease-mint is the largest plant family in the game at 13 members.
  • There are some plants that could fit into other families, but are in other families based on how they are played:
  • Some plants contradict the characteristics of their respective families but were categorized so for various reasons.
    • Magnet-shroom, Blover and Grave Buster are from the Contain-mint family, but their primary function isn't stalling zombies. They were likely categorized so for their containing properties.
      • In Blover's case, he is categorised because he is similar to Hurrikale, since they both push zombies back. But Blover usually blows flying and floating zombies away, and only does this when the Contain-mint family is Bruized.
    • Ghost Pepper is from the Pepper-mint family but lacks any fire properties. She was categorized there due to being a pepper.
    • Despite not being an electric plant, Magnifying Grass and Ultomato are in the Fila-mint family, as their attacks and appearances are somewhat electric.
  • Marigold, Power Lily, Tile Turnip, Gold Leaf, Thyme Warp, Lily Pad, Imitater, and Perfume-shroom are not in any plant families.
    • Enchant-mint's almanac entry states that Power Lily, Imitater, and Tile Turnip is part of his family but they don't receive boosts from him.
    • In Imitater's case, he takes the mint family of the plant he imitates, if any. He can't imitate power mints.
    • Gold Bloom and Gold Leaf's almanac entry that they are in the Enlighten-mint Family but they don't receive boosts from her.
    • Ail-mint's almanac entry states that Perfume-shroom is part of its family but she doesn't receive boosts from it.
