Pike Hoya (长枪球兰; pinyin: Cháng​qiāng Qiúlán) is a manually controlled plant in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the v3.0.2 update alongside Twin Year of the Rabbits, Pea Pharmacist and the Celebrating Chinese New Year Secret Realm.

For his main attack he continuously throws pikes down his lane at zombies. When planted, Pike Hoya will charge up, after charging, Pike Hoya can be tapped on to perform a powerful melee attack. This melee attack will launch the closest zombie nearby up into the air, stunning it for a short time. Pike Hoya will then fire off a combo on all zombies nearby. After that, he enters cooldown and must wait before he could attack again.

Origins

He’s based on the shooting star hoya (Hoya multiflora), also known as the Many flowered Hoya, Wax Plant, and Porcelain Flower, an asclepiad species of flowering plant in the dogbane family Apocynaceae.

Upgrades

Plant Food effect

When fed Plant Food, Pike Hoya will begin to rapidly twirl his pike in the air, dragging zombies from a 3x3 area around him to the tile in front of him while dealing continuous damage.

Costumed

If he’s costumed, Pike Hoya's pike twirl area in increased to 5x5 and will now launch zombies in the air while damaging them, and dealing additional damage when they land on the ground.

Trivia

• When Pike Hoya is fed plant food, he’ll reuse sound effects from Hammer Zombie and Loquat.
• If Pike Hoya dies while performing his melee attack and a zombie is in the air, the game will crash when it comes back down.
