MayBee, also stylized as "Maybee", is a premium plant added in the 10.4 update of Plants vs. Zombies 2 as part of the MayBee Pollinate & Eliminate! Arena Season.

MayBee fires bees when zombies get to close to her. These bees seek out the closest zombies in MayBee's attack area, three tiles ahead of or behind her, and deal continuous damage while slowing their movement and reducing their attack damage, until the zombie is defeated. When the targeted zombie is defeated, the bees will linger on the tile the zombie was defeated in, and will target the first zombie that enters a 3x3 area around the bees. After a certain amount of time, the bees will eventually expire.

Bees shot by MayBee can have their damage boosted (1.5x) by passing by Lightning Reed or Bzzz Button, either by having one of the aforementioned plants be planted in front of MayBee, or by planting one inside the bees' 3x3 targeting area. After firing bees, MayBee needs to recharge for 18 seconds. If MayBee is attacked by a zombie, said zombie will be temporarily stunned for half a second.

Origins

MayBee is based on the may bell (Convallaria majalis), also known as the lily of the valley. It is a woodland flowering plant with sweetly scented, pendent, bell-shaped flowers borne in sprays in spring.

Her name is a portmanteau on "may bell", the plant she is based on; and "bee", referring to her bee-like projectiles.

Plant Food effect

When given Plant Food, MayBee fires a barrage of stronger bee-like projectiles to seek out targets all across the board and stuns any zombies who got stung stunned for a short time.

Enchant-mint effect

When boosted by Enchant-mint, MayBee will deal an additional 20 (level 1-2), 30 (level 3-4), 40 (level 5-7), 50 (level 8-9), or 60 (level 10) damage with her bee attack, double damage with her Plant Food bee attack, her bee duration is increased by 10 (level 1), 15 (level 2-3), 20 (level 4-5), 25 (level 6-7), or 30 (level 8-10) seconds, her stun duration is increased by 1 (level 1-4), 2 (level 5-7), or 3 (level 8-10) second(s), and her bee's slowdown percentage is increased from 10% to 20%.

Strategies

While she may not seem like her due to her lack of raw health, Maybee functions very well as a wall plant. This is due to her stun against zombies eating her having enough uptime to turn her 300 raw health to 4800 effective health. Due to having more than enough capabilities for such, it is recommended to use this plant as a wall when selected. This includes positioning her at column 6 or 7, and starting to plant her sooner than later to offload her recharge during the early game. She also comes with the unique trait of being the only Enchant-mint family plant with wall capabilities, giving her a vital role to play in setups centered around the corresponding power mint.

On top of the walling capabilities, she gets some strong damage output from her bees. When taking the downtime of she having no bees active into account, her damage output is in the same tier as Citron or a full Pea Pod. Since this is single-target damage, combos with crowd control secondary damage plants is advised.

Additionally, she has combo potential with Lightning Reed and Bzzz Button, as they both boost Maybee's damage by 50% when the bees pass through them. However Lightning Reed works against MayBee's usage as a defensive plant. Bzzz Button, however, is usually meant to be eaten, and as such does works better when utilizing MayBee as a wall.
