Mangofier is a premium plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the 11.5.1 update. It is a manual plant that can be tapped to switch between two firing modes. The first mode lobs several small mango pieces at multiple zombies, and the second mode lobs a single large mango piece at a singular zombie. Mangofier cannot be planted on minecarts.

Origins

Mangofier is based on the mango, a popular and commonly eaten fruit produced by the Magnifera indica tree.

Mangofier's name is a portmanteau of "mango", the plant he is based on, and "magnifier", referencing its plant food ability which allows it to summon a beam of light.

Plant Food effect

When given Plant Food, Mangofier summons a light beam from the sky that focuses on the zombie closest to the lawn, dealing 450 damage in a 3x3 area every second.

Arma-mint effect

When boosted by Arma-mint, Mangofier will deal an additional 60 (increases by 30 damage for each level) with its spread attack, an additional 500 damage with its focus and Plant Food attacks, an additional 70/80/90/110/120/140/150/170/185/200 damage with its focus splash attack, its PF damage cooldown is reduced by 0.25 seconds, and its PF AoE radius is increased by 1 tile.

Strategies

At first glance, Mangofier may seem weak, but it offers solid synergy with other plants in the Arma-mint family. For instance, Mangofier pairs well with BoomBerry, compensating for BoomBerry’s tendency to target far-back zombies by covering any that slip past. With its dual attack styles, Mangofier works independently alongside BoomBerry.

Mangofier also synergizes effectively with Blastberry Vine, Stickybomb Rice, and classic plants like Cabbage-pult and Kernel-pult, all benefiting from Arma-mint boosts. These lobbed-shot plants get extra support from Mangofier, making it a versatile utility option.

However, Mangofier is situational, requiring players to toggle between focus (red mode) and spread (yellow mode). This toggle can be tricky when using vine plants, as they cover the color indicators.

The spread attack (yellow mode) targets zombies across the lawn, while the focus attack (red mode) deals high splash damage to its lane only.

Despite its lobbed attacks, Mangofier’s projectiles can’t be deflected by Jester Zombie, nor are Parasol Zombies protected, similar to Turkey-pult’s effectiveness in the Arma-mint family.

Finally, Mangofier’s plant food effect is powerful, using a beam to potentially solo a Gargantuar. To maximize this, there must be at least one zombie in its lane, allowing the beam to linger for up to 8 seconds, awaiting additional zombies.
