Inferno is a plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the 8.9.1 update. Inferno swirls up fire tornadoes every 5.95-6.05 seconds, sweeping zombies up and moving them back and damaging them. The first zombie that encounters the fire tornado will take 5 times as much damage, while Frozen blocks they encounter are destroyed instantly.
Inferno is also immune to frost and warms nearby plants every 1.5 seconds.
Origins

Inferno is based on a fern, a plant famously known for reproducing via spores rather than flowers and seeds.
His name is a pun on "fern" and "inferno," which is a term used to describe a large fire, referencing his fire based abilities.
His overall appearance, that being a fiery bush, could be a reference to the burning bush from the Bible.

Inferno doesn't feel like he gets enough credit. "Of course I burn zombies," he fumes. "That's a given. But what about how I sweep them down the lane through the sheer force of hot air? Where's my prize for that?"

Upgrades
Plant Food effect

Plant Food ability
When fed with Plant Food, Inferno will create a stronger fire tornado which can also attract zombies in the adjacent lanes.
Pepper-mint effect
When boosted by Pepper-mint, both Inferno's normal and Plant Food fire tornadoes will do an additional 48 DPS per tick. He will also warm plants in a larger area as if he was at level 10 and the damage he deals to ice is increased to 500 DPS.

Strategies
Inferno's fire tornado acts like a reverse Sandstorm/Snowstorm wave, except it blows zombies away from the house rather than bringing them towards the house. It's Plant Food ability can eliminate a lot of zombies quickly. It is also wise to save up some sun to plant one of these as it's somewhat expensive at 200. Inferno by itself may have a hard time killing even a Basic Zombie, as its damage is as little as a pea (20 DPS), at level one, so it's best to use it as a supporting plant and not your main offense. Plants like Stallia can help slow down zombies. Avoid using Iceberg Lettuce with Inferno as it removes the freezing effect given. Also avoid using it with short ranged plants like Bonk Choy as it will take them out of their range.
If the player hasn't purchased Chomper, Inferno teamed up with Pepper-pult, Hot Date, or Pyre Vine can also be an effective combo in eradicating hordes of zombies. For final waves, it also works best teamed up with Pepper-mint when many zombies reach the column closest to the house. Since he defrosts them, seek for other sources of crowd-controlling effects like Stallia.
Note that Inferno pushes back the first zombie that is encountered by the tornado, he can push back Imps thrown by Gargantuars and can push back zombies that are far in your defenses.
Be aware for imp Dragon Zombies, as they are immune to his damage, but not his knockback effect.

•When it attacks a newspaper zombie and enraged it, the Newspaper Zombie's running speed is the same to its walking speed despite it being enraged, but its eating speed remains the same though.
