Iceweed is an ice plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2, introduced in the 9.3.1 update. He is an ice variant of Spikeweed, damaging and slowing down zombies from below and immune to being eaten, with the added benefit of being immune to Frostbite Caves' freezing winds, in a similar matter to Cold Snapdragon and Missile Toe.
Origins[]

Iceweed could possibly be based on the Verbesina virginica. whose common names include the Frostweed, the White Crownbeard, and the Iceweed.
Almanac entry[]

Iceweed |
Iceweeds damage and chill zombies that walk over them. Iceweed is excited to get the call-up to the big leagues and can't wait to start refrigerating zombies whilst inflicting damage on them. He insisted we say "whilst." |
Upgrades[]
Plant Food Effect[]

Plant Food ability (animated)
When fed Plant Food, Iceweed summons a sawblade that is then fired down the lane, freezing all zombies it reaches and moving them to the back of the lane. The sawblade cannot knock back Zomboni or Zombie Bobsled Team.
Iceweed will also be empowered for as long as he is not destroyed, dealing more damage to zombies that walk on him and having more toughness. Also, he will have the ability to resist several rolling objects and Gargantuar smashes, similarly to Spikerock.
Winter-mint Effect[]
When boosted by Winter-mint, Iceweed deals an additional 55 damage on his normal attack, an additional 110 damage on his powered attack, and his PF blade will deal an additional 1300 damage.

Strategies[]
Iceweed is a great plant in it of itself, since two columns full of Iceweeds can defeat a Conehead Zombie. His powerful chilling effect stops zombies from advancing, as they will be frozen until several seconds after stepping off Iceweed. Dangerous zombies such as Newspaper Zombie, All-Star Zombie and Sunday Edition Zombie can be slowed down when the zombie is running at full speed or their respective newspaper is being destroyed. This can buy time for offensive plants like Bonk Choy or Headbutter Lettuce to kill them.
Explorer Zombie, Torchlight Zombie and Prospector Zombie's torches and dynamites respectively will be extinguished when touching Iceweed meaning a full column of Iceweeds at the front can fully nullify their effects. Imp Dragon Zombie also isn't immune to ice damage, making it weak to Iceweed as well. He is an effective choice in Dark Ages, but beware of Wizard Zombie because he can transform Iceweed into passive sheep.
While in Pirate Seas, he can destroy barrels from Barrel Roller Zombie and damage Imp Cannon. Jurassic Marsh zombies with speed boosts from T.Rexes can also be effectively shut down due to his slowing effect. Planting Iceweed at the leftmost row when a Pterodactyl brings zombies with it lets Iceweed fire his buzzsaw, repelling and chilling them. However, this is not recommended, due to the existence of Spikeweed and Spikerock's plant food, as well as Chard Guard, a cheaper and less permanent solution.
Boingsetta, Hurrikale, Primal Peashooter, Chard Guard or Spring Bean all synergise well with Iceweed. Iceweed needs to be planted on as many tiles as possible, and planting the aforementioned plants at the leftmost row will push or knock back the zombies to take more damage. Like with Spikeweed and Spikerock, any stallers will perform very well alongside Iceweed. Locking a zombie on top of Iceweed allows for maximum damage, and when paired with the fact that Chill reduces zombie attack speed, Iceweed's area chill will prevent his staller from dying.
Iceweed can't shine well in Lost City due to the appearance of Excavator Zombie, which can dig Iceweed and throw it backward or off the lawn. Excavator is also the only zombie who can eat him. It is also problematic to use this plant in Neon Mixtape Tour with the appearance of Arcade Zombie and Trologbite in Frostbite Caves. Their respective arcade machine and ice blocks can immediately destroy Iceweed. Lastly, avoid combining Iceweed in a level with plants from Pepper-mint's Family, Wasabi Whip or Torchwood as they can nullify his chilling effect.

Trivia[]
- His design is somewhat similar to Diamond Spikeweed's old design from Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars.
- The sawblade projectile that Iceweed summons for his Plant Food attack is based on a similar projectile that was planned to be used for Spikeweed's Plant Food attack.
- In the official 9.3 announcement post, he is once incorrectly referred to as "Ice Weed."
- Like Spikeweed and Spikerock, he can be planted on Lily Pad unlike most other underground plants in the Big Wave Beach, but only function properly if there is no water under its tile. Zombies can otherwise attack Iceweed and then Lily Pad.
- Strangely, despite being a ground plant, he can somehow be charmed by Boombox Zombie.
- This is most likely a glitch.
