Scrapped plants[]

These plants were either scrapped during development, unused in the final version, or unfinished. Some of them were used in Pre-Alpha versions, and some of them still had files in the latest (April version, at the time of writing) release. All of images and textures below are from game code and files.

Acorn Oak[]

Acorn Oak is based on Acorn and Oak from Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville. Acorn Oak was planned to fire shells that home in on the left-most zombie on the lawn. Due to the presence of three distinct models, it could be presumed that this plant was planned to be a Tree like Gravitree and Dogwood.

Acorn Oak made an appearance in Chinese spin-offs Plants vs. Zombies 3D and Plants vs. Zombies 3D Merge.

  • Splash screen description: Seeds of Destruction
  • Description: Shoots acorn shells that home in on the closest zombie across all lanes. Sturdy!
  • Plant Food effect: Super Sappy: Fires a spiral of acorn shells that slow zombies they hit.
  • Tacobility: Wood Grief: Gains a third acorn, plus a cannon that deals heavy damage with a chance to knock back zombies.
  • Flavor text: To the Acorns, every battle has a taste, and that taste is always fudge. Good thing they like fudge. Oak, on the other leaf, is more of a nougat guy, so he concentrates on military logistics, which (for the record) taste like nougat.

Backpetal[]

Backpetal is original to this game. Previously named "Two-Fisted Tulip", Backpetal was planned to be an epic-rarity plant who punches zombies like Bonk Choy, however it was said to backpedal when they got too close. What was meant by backpedaling is currently unknown.

Backpetal made an appearance in Chinese spin-offs Plants vs. Zombies 3D and Plants vs. Zombies 3D Merge.

  • Description: Punches zombies, then backpedals when they get too close. Pugilistic!
  • Plant Food effect: Uppercut: Knocks back zombies with a flurry of punches, doing heavy damage.
  • Tacobility: Brain Boxer: Increases attack damage and gives a chance to stun zombies.

Burstberry[]

Burstberry is original to this game. Previously unlockable in the Pre-Alpha under the name "Backberry", Burstberry was planned to be a common-rarity plant who lobbed berries at zombies, these berries would then explode into chunks that damaged other zombies behind the initial target.

Burstberry made an appearance in Chinese spin-offs Plants vs. Zombies 3D and Plants vs. Zombies 3D Merge.

  • Description: Lobs berries that burst into bits when they hit a zombie. Bits all fire to the right. Juicy!
  • Plant Food effect: Berry Blitz: Fires a short-range blast of berries that split into more berries in a chain reaction.
  • Tacobility: Juiced Up: Can target more zombies in adjacent lanes, and increases burst damage.

Caesar Salad[]

Caesar Salad is original to this game. It was supposed to spawn Romaine Legionary. Not much else is known about this plant other than a datamined model, textures and a seed packet image.

Celery Stalker[]

Celery Stalker is a returning plant from Plants vs. Zombies 2. Not much is known about it other than a datamined model, textures and a seed packet image.

Celery Stalker made an appearance in Chinese spin-offs Plants vs. Zombies 3D and Plants vs. Zombies 3D Merge.

Dreadwood[]

Dreadwood is a returning plant from Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville. Not much is known about it other than datamined models and seed packet image. Due to the presence of three distinct models, it can be presumed that this plant was planned to be a Tree like Gravitree and Dogwood.

Ginger Zap[]

Ginger Zap is original to this game. Previously unlockable in the Pre-Alpha under the name "Ginzing", Ginger Zap was an rare-rarity plant who fires short rage electric bolts in 4 diagonal directions in similar manner to Rotobaga, these bolts can both damage flying zombies and chain through multiple targets like Lightning Reed.

  • Description: Shoots close-range chain lightning in 4 diagonal directions. Can hit flying zombies. Zip-zap-zappy!
  • Plant Food effect: Wild Ginger: Discharges rapid-fire bolts of lightning at random zombies in a 5x5 area.
  • Tacobility: Grounded: Lightning bolts do more damage and chain through more zombies.

Grapes of Wrath[]

Grapes of Wrath is a returning plant from Plants vs. Zombies Heroes. Not much is known about it other than a datamined model, textures and a seed packet image. It made an appearance in the current version of the game as a Power Up.

Kernel Corn[]

Kernel Corn is a recurring character in the franchise. Previously unlockable in the Pre-Alpha, Kernel Corn was a legendary-rarity plant who fires a barrage of kernels in the lanes above and below it, recharging afterwards.

  • Description: Shots rapid-fire corn kernels down both adjacent lanes, then takes time to reload. Overwhelming!
  • Plant Food effect: Bigger Better Butter: Drops butter bombs that damage zombies and spawn butter puddles.
  • Tacobility: Auto-Loader: Reloads faster and has a chance to fire butter with every shot.

Morel Support[]

Morel Support is original to this game. Not much is known about it other than a datamined model, textures and a seed packet image.

Romaine Legionary[]

Romaine Legionary is original to this game. It was supposed to be spawned by Caesar Salad. Not much else is known about this plant other than a datamined model and textures.

Soul Patch[]

Soul Patch is a returning plant from Plants vs. Zombies Heroes. Soul Patch was planned to be a legendary-rarity plant who could summon a column-wide rainbow force field that blocked off all zombies in all lanes.

  • Description: Creates a rainbow wall that blocks zombies in all lanes. Kaleidoscopic!
  • Plant Food effect: Rainbow Smite: Pushes his rainbow forward, knocks zombies back, and spawns a new wall behind the old one.
  • Tacobility: Rainbow Connection: Heals his rainbow over time and damages zombies that attack the rainbow.

Sun-Shroom[]

Sun-Shroom is a recurring plant in the franchise. Previously unlockable in the Pre-Alpha, Sun-Shroom was an epic-rarity plant who can grow in phases, adding one sun to the player's sun meter each time it grows. It has a limited lifespan like Puff-Shroom.

Sun-Shroom made an appearance in Chinese spin-offs Plants vs. Zombies 3D and Plants vs. Zombies 3D Merge.

  • Description: Slowly grows, making 1 Sun each time. Has a limited life span. Economical!
  • Plant Food effect: Fungal Flare: Makes an instant burst of sun.
  • Tacobility: Solar Powered: Increases growth speed and sun generation.

Scrapped zombies[]

These zombies were either scrapped during development, unused in the final version, or unfinished. All images and textures below are from game code and files.

Scrapped Brainiacs[]

Brown Recluse[]

Brown Recluse is original to this game. His files were found when datamining the game, but he was never released. Alongside him were found three weasel models, connecting him to Ice Weasel and Weasel Smuggler. There were also found effects for, presumably, his moves: Helicopter, Smoke Bomb and Weasel Radar. A strange splash screen description was also found. Nothing else is known about this Brainiac.

  • Splash screen description: [JOKEY SUBTITLE HAS BEEN REDACTED]

Earl Grey Matter[]

Earl Grey Matter is original to this game. His minions were supposed to be Ballgown Zombie, High Tea Gargantuar (presumably), Mad Hatter, Parasol Zombie, Tea Kettle Zombie and Teapot Imp. His invasion was suppposed to be called "Earl Grey Matter's Tea Party". There are animations of his attacks, which include Infernal Infusion, Spill Tea and Tea Party.

There were found texts for his invasion
