Cryo-shroom (寒冰菇, lit. "Cold Ice-shroom"; pinyin: hán bīng gū), internally referred to as "iceshrooom", is a plant in the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2. He shoots projectiles that can slow down and damage zombies, dealing 50 damage.

Like Sun-shroom, Strawburst, and Pyro-shroom, he grows over time in three stages. In his first stage he shoots ice balls that chill zombies. After 30 seconds he will grow to his second stage which is the same attack but does more damage. After another 30 seconds he will grow to his third stage where he can shoot ice orbs that split into two, slower orbs if it hits a zombie and other zombies are nearby. These smaller orbs target other zombies and each split into even smaller and slower orbs.

Plant Food effect

When given Plant Food, Cryo-shroom grows to full size and creates two 3x3 ice sinkholes for four seconds, which can drag down and instantly defeat zombies caught in their area of effect.

	Snow Swirl 寒冰螺旋	After the Cryo-shroom grows up, the attack in the third stage becomes an ice spiral, which can spread out small ice balls with 80% damage of the big magic ball. 寒冰菇长大后，第三阶段的攻击变为寒冰螺旋，能扩散出大魔法球80%伤害的小冰球。

Strategies

Cryo-shroom is one of the stronger freezing options due to his offensive power. His crowd-controlling effects prove valuable by paralyzing groups of zombies, his plant food effect easily eliminating certain durable threats and with immunity to almost all enemy projectile deflection (except for Hammer Zombie and Nunchaku Zombie), all for just 175 sun and a fast recharge.

Take note that for him to reach his full potential, Cryo-shroom requires time to grow, so make sure to use other plants to protect Cryo-shroom, or you can cheese his growing time with Plant Food. At Level 5 he summons a tornado that also damages zombies like Kiwifruit but it doesn't stop them so use it more like Spikeweed or Spikerock.

However, he faces competition with Winter Melon. Winter Melon doesn't need time to grow, has a 3x3 area of splash damage, can attack Excavator Zombies and has a faster rate of fire compared to Cryo-shroom. However, Cryo-shroom has advantages over Winter Melon, that being his cheaper sun cost (175) compared to Winter Melon's 500 sun cost and being able to damage Parasol Zombie and Jester Zombie, while Winter Melon's attacks will simply be blocked or reflected.

Trivia

• He is tied to Dark Ages, despite not being on the world's plant list.
• In the costumed upgrade menu, Cryo-shroom sometimes will not play his correct Plant Food effect.
• Cryo-Shroom will not use his Plant food if he gets activated by a Power Tile.
• His cap resembles a wizard's hat, referring to his wizard-like powers. He shares this trait with Pyro-shroom.
• Gargantuars will try to smash the ice created by his Plant Food ability, but they cannot destroy them.
• When fully grown he has 3 idle animations.
• Unlike Pyro-shroom, his face does not change with growth. This is possibly a glitch.
• He is the first plant to only be able to use his Plant Food ability one at a time. To use the attack again, the player must wait until the end of the first attack.
  • This was most likely done to prevent issues with the game dragging zombies to multiple holes at once.
    • However, if the player plays Cryo-shroom when he has Level 4 or above and before use Plant Food on another Cryo-shroom, they both will make 4 holes (or 6 with costume) but they won't place on each other's range.
• He cannot be used in Sky City levels because his Plant Food ability involves cracking the ground. However, he can be used in Air Raid. Agave cannot be used in Sky City for the same reason.
  • However, Lava Guava also has a ground-based Plant Food effect, but can still be used in Sky City.
• Pyro-shroom, Cryo-shroom and Sun-shroom are the only mushrooms that grow.
• In Two-Player Mode, it is possible for the ice balls from his fully grown phase to fly towards the opposing player's lawn and damage the zombies the player sends to attack them.
