Sweet Treat Glues Zombies to the Street

Caramel Popcorn is a Common Lobber plant Plants vs. Zombies 3. She lobs light damaging kernels and slowing caramel blobs.

Caramel Popcorn is one of the three new lobbing plants introduced in Plants vs. Zombies 3; she is unlocked along with Butternut Squash by beating Floor 17 of Devour Tower. Her seed packets are more likely to be dropped in Silicorn Lab  breakout battles.

She costs 6 sun, and her ability is similar to Kernel-Pult's, lobbing weak kernels that damage zombies and occasionally lobbing caramel blobs.

But unlike Kernel-Pult, these caramel blobs do not momentarily stun zombies; they instead cover the tile the targeted zombie is currently occupying, creating a caramel puddle which slows down all zombies it similar to Sap-fling's sap puddles.

Caramel Popcorn is based on Kernel-Pult, both in appearance and ability, and caramel popcorn, a confection made of popcorn coated with a sugar or molasses based caramel and is popular treat sold at baseball stadiums.

Plant Food effect

Caramel Popcorn's Plant Food ability is named Hot Toffee, in which Caramel Popcorn will detonate all the caramel blobs currently on the lawn, making them deal lots of damage to zombies, as well as creating newer caramel blobs.

Caramel Popcorn's Tacobility is Super Sticky, making Caramel Popcorn lob caramel blobs more often. These caramel blobs also slow zombies more.

Caramel Popcorn should not be used too differently from Kernel-Pult. She lobs weak caramel popcorn at enemies, which is effective against zombies. However, unlike Kernel-Pult, she can shoot caramel blobs that can slow down many zombies at once. This is effective against swarms of zombies, since her caramel can stick and damage all zombies on a tile, but her moderate attack speed may be her downfall.

Caramel Popcorn may be effective against many threats due to her caramel ability, but it should not be relied on too heavily. Since Caramel Popcorn has a chance to fling caramel, and she has a slower-than-average attack speed, you should bring other plants to the level to support Caramel Popcorn just in case. Her sun cost of 6 also makes her slightly difficult to get into play.

Her Plant Food is good for dealing with plenty of damage to zombies at once, and it spawns extra caramel puddles, so she is not a bad choice for Plant Food.

Her Tacobility is identical to Kernel-Pult's in the sense that it makes Caramel Popcorn use her "special attack", the caramel, more often and it slows the zombies in the puddles even more.

Balance changes

May 26, 2020 Patch

  • Cooldown increased from 7 to 10 seconds.

  • Coincidentally, both Caramel Popcorn and Sap-fling share a loose baseball theme. With Sap-fling described as participating in a baseball-like sport known as "Pinecone Ball", and Caramel Popcorn being based on a confectionery that is famously sold at baseball stadiums.
    • They both also share a similar ability to create a slowing puddle on the tile the targeted zombie occupies, furthering their connection.
