Bzzz Button, briefly known as Buzz Button before a data push, is a plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 first introduced in the 10.3.1 update for the Bzzz Button's Electric Arena Season. When a zombie eats Bzzz Button, they become electrified, which damages and slows the zombie while causing them to create arcing bolts of lightning at other zombies. Zombies hit by these bolts of arced lightning are also slowed down themselves.

Origins

Bzzz Button, as his name infers, is based on the buzz button (Acmella oleracea), also known as the toothache plant, Szechuan buttons, paracress, tingflower and electric daisy. It is a flowering herb whose leaves are commonly used in North Brazilian cuisine.

His electric powers are perhaps inspired by the buzz button's other common name, the electric daisy, while its effect activating upon consumption may also be inspired by the flower buds of real world buzz buttons giving the mouth a strong tingling or numbing sensation when orally ingested.

Plant Food effect

When given Plant Food, Bzzz Button charges up with electric energy and explodes into a swarm of lightning bolts that stun zombies and do heavy damage. Bzzz Button self destructs afterwards, much like Ultomato.

Fila-mint effect

When boosted by Fila-mint, Bzzz Button's electrified init damage will be increased to 66, 78, 102, 132, 174, 231, 294, 378, 486, or 630 damage based on his level, his later damage will be increased to 28, 30, 39, 51, 66, 84, 111, 141, 183, or 237 damage based on his level, his charged damage will be increased to 96, 126, 132, 144, 174, 186, 210, 222, 252, or 278 damage based on his level, and his Plant Food power will deal double damage.

Strategies

Bzzz Button is a surprisingly adept stalling plant. On top of its 6.666...% stun uptime, he has a 75% slowdown with 80% uptime (combining into a 60% stalling rate, 62.666...% when factoring in the stun) and a spread that has a 60% slowdown with a 40% uptime (combining into a 24% stalling rate). However, due to his nature as a trap plant allowing him to be stockpiled (with very stable stockpiles due to him needing to be eaten first), it's fairly reasonable for his uptime to be larger.

Though what truly makes his stalling powerful is that, similar to Draftodil or Tomb Tangler, his slowdown is able to stack with slowdowns of other plants like Sap-fling or Snow Pea, allowing you to retain the full effect of Bzzz Button's stalling rather than it being proportionally smaller. This allows his main slowdown to retain its full 60% stall rate against zombies in its 3x3 area of effect, a stall rate on par with Stunion who's area of effect is far smaller and uses stun instead of slowdown making it a comparatively worse combo for knockback plants like Primal Peashooter.

An interesting setup is to use Garlics positioned in the topmost and bottommost lanes to divert zombies into the center 3 lanes, maximizing Bzzz Button's 3x3 area of effect. One might recognize that this is the same setup commonly used in Electric Currant strategies, and you would be correct! This presents an interesting combo to the player that they can utilize (especially useful that they are both plants boosted via Fila-mint), however it should be noted other plants can make use of that space if the player chooses, such as Electric Blueberry, Sling Pea, or even just a regular sun producer like Sunflower.

Other notable strategy to use Bzzz Button is by planting Spikeweed, Spikerock or Iceweed on the second columns from the right and plant Bzzz Button exactly on the first columns. When the zombies appears, they will consume Bzzz Button and they will slowed down, giving the aforementioned plants to deal enough damage to them. The best result would probably come from using Bzzz Button and Iceweed synergy, since the latter plant has already gives chilling effect to zombies, damaging them enough even further when zombies consumed the former. To avoid the long recharge time of Bzzz Button, just bring Intensive Carrot so the zombies will continuously consume it.

It is not recommended to bring Bzzz Button in levels where the player is required to not lose a certain number of plants. This is because Bzzz Button is a consumable plant that needs to be eaten for him to trigger damage.

• Bzzz Button is one of the three plants that destroys themselfs when fed with Plant Food, the others being Ultomato and Doom-shroom.
  • Coincidentally, Bzzz Button and Ultomato are part of the Fila-mint family.
