Blockoli is a stunning wall plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2 introduced in the 9.5.1 update for the Blockoli Bash Arena season. He is a defensive plant who is also able to slam his floret shields in order to stun any nearby zombies. Once he slams his shields he will need to recharge before he is able to slam them again; while recharging, he will use his slammed florets to block off any oncoming zombies.
Blockoli is also immune to the special abilities of the Fisherman Zombie and Excavator Zombie.
Origins

Blockoli is is based on broccoli, an edible green plant in the cabbage family (family Brassicaceae, genus Brassica) whose large flowering head and stalk is eaten as a vegetable. His name derives from "block", referring to his ability to block Zombies, and "broccoli".

Strategies
As a defensive plant with offensive ability, Blockoli has more attack range than other damage-dealing defensive plants, which means that he is fully capable of preventing himself from being hurt at all. When facing a large group of zombies, he is also very effective, because his attack is AoE (Area of effect), which is much stronger than Pea-nut which can only attack single target at one time. At level 1, his damage is enough to kill basic zombies in two shots, and his health is second only to Tall-nut. However, this does not mean that Blockoli has no weaknesses. Every time he smash zombies with shields, he will enter the cooling state, making him vulnerable to the attacks of zombies. When there are no zombies in his attack range, he will immediately recover, so that he can smash again. Therefore, it is better to match Blockoli with stun plants/knockback plants/Hocus Crocus. Primal Peashooter is an example that can be matched with him. Stun plants can help him recover and reduce the damage he takes, while the knockback plants/Hocus Crocus can keep the zombie away from his attack range and directly reset his cooldown. Weed plants (Spikeweed, Spikerock, Iceweed) that are planted in front of him and melee plants (such as Bonk Choy) that are planted behind him are also very useful.
Blockoli's function is also similar to Buttercup's. Both of them can stall zombies, helping you have more time to plant more powerful plants. The difference is that the other one is passive attack, while he is active attack (no need for zombies to bite him to trigger), and the range is much larger. What Blockoli can't compare with Buttercup are damage and stun duration; however, his high health also helps him delay zombies. It is worth noting that like most defensive plants, he is still vulnerable to instant-kill attacks, which makes his high HP completely useless.
Where Blockoli truly shines is in his ability to counter Fisherman Zombie and Excavator Zombie, making him a must-have for later levels of both Temple of Bloom and Tiki Torch-er where they come in swarms. Blockoli can still be forced to move his position in some ways, such as Mecha-Football Zombie, Punk Zombie and zombies launched forwards by Ankylosaurs.

Trivia
- Blockoli has the similar attack range to Snapdragon and Cold Snapdragon.
- Blockoli is the third plant that has his idling animation similar to the watered or ready to level up animation, the first being Hocus Crocus, the second being Pea Vine, and the fourth being Buttercup.
- When given Plant Food, his attack sound makes a metal clang instead of no sound at all until his metal shield is either eaten or taken off. He also bears a slight resemblance to Sportacus.
- Unlike most defensive plants, he does not have any kind of visual degrades upon taking damage. However, his PF shields do change when taking damage.
- Unlike other stun plants, Blockoli's stun has a halo that surrounds the zombie's head, similar to that of Zombot when he was dizzy.
- Blockoli shares many traits with Aggro Brocco from Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2:
- They are both broccoli-based offensive and defensive plants.
- They are both cost 150 sun at level 1.
- Both of them use their broccoli arms to attack zombies.
- Moreover, their Plant Food animations are similar to each other.
