Starting Adventure Mode

Starting Adventure Mode in the Game of the Year Edition

The hand from a zombie when the player starts to play or resume Adventure Mode
Adventure Mode is the first available mode and the main mode in Plants vs. Zombies. There are five stages and six areas playable in this mode, which are Day, Night, Pool, Fog, Roof, and Night Roof; each with their own characteristics. There are 10 levels from Day to Pool (stages 1-3), while 9 on Fog and Roof as 4-5 and 5-10 takes place on Night by the former and the latter on the Night Roof, respectively thus stages 4 and 5 take place in two different areas. A new plant is unlocked and added to the player's roster at the end of most levels, and in the other levels the player receives an item or a note.
Overview[]
In Adventure Mode, the player starts out with only a Peashooter. The fifth level in each area is a bonus level, which takes the form of a mini-game. The tenth level of every stage is a conveyor-belt level. Every fifth level, except for Level 5-5, is later unlocked as a mini-game or Puzzle Mode level. During Level 3-2, the mini-games mode is unlocked, and Puzzle Mode is unlocked during Fog Level 4-6.

First time playing Adventure Mode[]
When playing Adventure Mode for the first time:
- At the end of the first, second, third and fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth levels, a new seed packet is obtained.
- At every first, third, sixth and eighth level, a new zombie is encountered.
- At the end of the fourth level, an item is obtained.
- The fifth level is a mini-game, and a seed packet is obtained at the end of it.
- A note from the zombies is obtained at the end of the ninth level.
- The tenth level is a conveyor-belt level, and a seed packet that is important for the next area is obtained at the end of it.
- At the end of Level 5-10, the player just gets another note from the zombies saying they surrender and the Silver Sunflower Trophy at the first time.
Once Adventure Mode has been beaten once:
- The Silver Sunflower Trophy is obtained.
- The Home Lawn Security achievement is obtained.
- More mini-games (at least one, but a maximum of three) and Puzzle Mode levels are unlocked, and Survival Mode is unlocked.
Replaying Adventure Mode[]
Once the player has finished Adventure Mode for the first time, they can opt to replay the Adventure mode. The player can use whatever plants previously obtained in each level. The player will face increased difficulty and a more challenging gameplay than they have experienced when playing for the first time. The player will also discover the Zombie Yeti upon playing Level 4-10 for a second time.
When replaying adventure mode:
- Crazy Dave will choose three random seed packets in the player's seed slots, each of which is different in every level and cannot be replaced or removed, but can be altered on most versions by closing the game and restarting it.
- Bonus levels will be replaced with their corresponding mini-game or Puzzle Mode counterparts.
- A money bag containing $250 coins will be dropped by the final zombie each level instead of a seed packet or item (except in Level 4-5, in which the bag only contains $100); notes are still dropped as before.
- Zombie Yeti can now be found in Level 4-10.
- Almost every level has an extra flag, with a few exceptions, like 1-10, 2-5, 2-10, 3-10, 4-5, and 5-10.
- Upon replaying, more dangerous zombies such as Pole Vaulting Zombies, Buckethead Zombies, Football Zombies, Dancing Zombies, Zombonis, Dolphin Rider Zombies, Jack-in-the-Box Zombies, Balloon Zombies, Pogo Zombies, Catapult Zombies, and Gargantuars will appear at much higher frequencies in the levels in which they appear.
- The game will only record the number of times the player completed Adventure Mode up to 2,147,483,647; after that, the game cannot store the value of the number of times the player has completed Adventure Mode.
- The Second Life achievement is obtained once the Adventure Mode is completed a second time.
Plants vs. Zombies FREE (2.4.0) Adventure[]
Plants vs. Zombies FREE Adventure Mode level selector (fully completed)-2
Level selector (with both Adventure 1 and Adventure 2 fully completed)
During the 2.4.0 update of Plants vs. Zombies FREE, the Adventure Mode has been redesigned with a level selector. The new Adventure Mode is very similar to the one in Plants vs. Zombies 2, where players can unlock new levels after completing one, and they can also replay any level they want (this also removed Quick Play). After players beat all levels in Adventure Mode for the first time, "Adventure 2" will be unlocked, which is similar to replaying Adventure Mode from the old versions (but with the level selector, rather than sequentially going through each level). Also, players can return to "Adventure 1" which is similar to Quick Play but includes every Adventure Mode level to replay them anytime.
- The naming of each level has changed, with the stage numbers (1 through 5) being replaced by the stage names (Day, Night, Pool, Fog and Roof). For example, Level 1-1 is renamed as Day Level 1.
- In "Adventure 1", players can play earlier levels with plants they have obtained from latter levels, except for Level 1-1, Level 1-2, Level 1-3, Level 1-4, Level 1-6 and Level 1-7 in which players can only use the plants unlocked when they played these levels for the first time.
- Level 1-1, 1-2 and 1-3 will have one lane, three lanes, and three lanes respectively, the same as playing them for the first time.
- In both "Adventure 1" and "Adventure 2", players can preview the levels in the next area following the current area they have unlocked, e.g. if the player is at a Day level, they can preview the Night levels, but not further from that.
- Clicking on a locked level or trying to start a new level with 2 saved progresses will emit a sound identical to the sound when Jack-in-the-Box Zombie opens its box.
- In "Adventure 1" the plants obtained after each level are shown under the corresponding levels; however special items and notes are shown as a smiley Sunflower face in the level selector.
- In "Adventure 2" the plants and smiley Sunflower faces are still shown in the level selector, even though players will get Money bags instead of seed packets or items.
- In "Adventure 2" there are 3 slots with forced random plants that cannot be replaced with other plants.

Notes from the zombies[]
The zombies leave notes on occasion with bad handwriting and spelling (except the one from Dr. Zomboss). There is also a zombie note in Help on the Main Menu.

Trivia for Intro[]
- The Icon of this “mini-game“ is a Vasebreaker level. The same goes with Can You Dig It? (hidden mini-game), Tree of Wisdom, Upsell, Survival: Day (Endless), Survival: Night (Endless), Survival: Fog (Endless), and Survival: Roof (Endless).
- By hacking the game, you will access Level 1-0 which was a fully-fledged level used for the intro. The game may crash on the final wave, but this can be prevented by planting Ice-shroom to prevent zombies from rising from the water. After beating the final wave in this level, you will get Peashooter. [1][2]
Strategies[]
Trivia[]
- Starting or resuming Adventure Mode in any version barring the mobile versions will cause the game over music to be played accompanied with an evil laugh. It even happens before the game starts.
